I'll let you review his 2016-17 numbers here

http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=130558

Didn't exactly set the world in fire in his AHL stint. Melt away.

Did he suddenly become bad at hockey? Because I'm seeing a close-to-ppg just last season in the AHL, as well as impressive playoffs production.

Leivo was sent down to the Marlies coming off a long injury stint. And yes, while the stats in those 5 games are not good, I don't feel it's fair to just write him off based on it.

What's working against Leivo right now is that our forward corps has been extremely healthy thus far this season. Just needs to have patience and he'll make his way into the lineup.

How dare you bring logic into the conversation.

Leivo and Carrick were our main stars in the Marlies playoff push last year. Just out of good faith, Leivo should get a minimum 5 game sample try out. He played pretty well last year during his 12 games. If I recall he got something like 5 goals in 5 straight games?

We have nothing to lose. As of right now we are one of the bottom 5 teams.

I think he's going to need 10 games.

JVR took about that to get going, same with Bozak after missing a big chunk of time with injury.

Also with him now suddenly looking like he's going to get icetime as soon as Holland is traded - nobody still thinks that injury was legit, right?

So Leivo goes from Robidas Island to Corrado Cavern.

7 good wingers and Martin in the lineup now and Martin. Unless Nylander gets sloted on the 4th line and Leivo comes in for Smith I still don't see playing time until an injury happens.

Hope Corrado shows him all the good spots in the press box.

He was one of the top 2 forwards during the playoffs, played a physical, tough game & didn't take any **** that teams were trying to dish out to our players. He actually played like a legit power forward.

With his production while up with the Leafs last year, we would be idiots not to get a good long look at him.

Who said to write him off?

I'll give Leivo a shot with Matthews. Matthews could use a big winger along the boards.
Brown looks good one game and kind of not good for 3 games. Hyman is Hyman. I have come to terms that Hyman will be tied to Matthews hip for the rest of his life. If Hyman gets injured, Matthews will probabaly be benched

Leivo has good shot and knack for scoring goals and can be good along the boards

Not that I would ever hope someone gets injured... but I feel like it's going to take something like a Hyman injury for them to be separated. When that happens eventually, Matthews will probably score a ton of goals with his new line mates and then there will be no more denying what is painfully obvious to almost all Leaf fans.

Put Leivo in Hyman's spot, sub Smith for #11.

For Leivo to play someone has to come out, and the wingers who might come out can do everything Josh can do and more. He's just another Holland, Frattin, McKegg

Babcock will not hesitant to put hyman back there, he will say "it's not all about points you need the meat and potatoes"

Pretty much this. I laugh everytime I read certain people on here banging the drum about the latest 5th line guy we have trying to crack the lineup. There are certain people on here who I'm convinced never watch games.

Anything can happen, maybe Leivo finds his game, but I don't think anyone in Leafs management is spending much time worrying about a fringe player. They're more likely wondering when and where a guy like Kapanen can fit into the lineup. Or if a guy Gauthier will ever be able to step into a full time PK specialist role in the N.
