Select a response keeping in mind not just the on ice results "now" but also with some foresight about playoff success

Coach: Babcock hasn't been implementing right strategies for on ice success

GM: Dubas has ruined the cap not leaving enough space for better depth and the roster he has assembled is not built for playoff success

Both are equally to be blamed

Players: GM and Coach have done it right; it is the players who do not show effort

Shanahan: He is trying to force GM-Coach combo of different philosophy which is not going to work

No issues

Dubas+Babcock+Players (as suggested by Duffman995)

look at the roster and look at the Leafs record since last December. It would be pretty weird if you think the Leafs player aren't better than their record

Bit of players, bit of Babcock.

Voted Babcock because it's his job to make the roster work... Especially one that is easily among the most talented and well-constructed in the league.

Dubas is the absolute worst negotiator in the NHL.

Babcock and Dubas are not on the same page

Babcock can't instill a stable system in multiple years.

The players are talented but play gutless hockey. Multiple top players disappear in big games.

Sad, but true.

How can any blame be put on Dubas at this time? If we are unable to surround the core with depth in the future years then by all means blame Dubas and his overpayments of the 3 kids/Tavares.

But at this point? It lies solely on Babcock and the players. This team has a ton of depth for THIS SEASON. Any blame for this season has to be put on the Players and Coaching staff for not executing.

And furthermore - look around the league. Half of the 'contenders' are around .500 hockey right now as well. 10 games guys.. calm down. Have faith in our team. The nitpicking is getting horrible around here. People act like Boston, Tampa etc are never losing games, it's hilarious.

I wish the Leafs played a physical, high tempo, perfect game for 60 minutes everynight too.. it's October. If it's like this in April we can re visit.

Its weird that people knock Dubas for not having the cap space to add depth players, when our depth players have produced like some of the best 3rd and 4th lines in the league lol.

We have like 12 guys on pace for 40 or more points right now... By comparrison, Boston only has 4 guys on pace for more than 20 lol

Tavares started slow, Ceci has been bad, and the goaltending has been terrible to start.

The rest of it is easily fixed by some coaching adjustments.

Dubas did a great job turning over parts of the roster and getting effective depth players.

Because the team struggles to defend and Dubas didn’t improve it, he actually made it worse?

Jake Gardiner is a far better defensive player that Tyson Barrie, and Codi Ceci for Nikita Zaitsev was a lateral move. He removed the tiny bit of sandpaper in Kadri and replaced him with another soft 5’10 player.

It’s unbelievable some of you don’t see the flaws in his thinking. He’s trying to reinvent the wheel and some of you are apparently betting it happens in their 5 year window. Good luck with that.

Everyone deserves blame. Dubas in particular.

lol if a Leaf fan said Gardiner was better defensively than Barrie in May, theyd get blasted by people like you. The issue with the Leafs is not everyone is playing up to their capabilities.

Dubas + players. Babcock doesn't choose the team. He didn't make a soft team and has called out Dubas. If this is what they are collectively it is what it is. A new coach may help a little bit but don't expect the butterfly transformation

Babcock loved Jake, he basically called him elite or whatever at one point. I agree. Dubas decided he wasn't worth 4x 4m lol what a maroooooon

We need to see a Babcock change so it is all in the hands of Dubas.
His coach, his choice of heavily paying 4 forwards at the expense of other needed things and his vision.

I am a Leaf fan and I get blasted all the time. Most often by people with no credentials. I find it funny.

I agree they’re underperforming, but why? Do you think the coach is responsible for players not competing hard? Not committed to playing defense?

The players make a lot of mistakes and I think some want to see Babcock hold everyone’s hand.. but that’s not how you raise men.

The fact there is no goaltending option perfectly sums up what is wrong with the fanbase and media right now. Brutal schedule at the same time Zebras have been unkind have played a part so far this year though.

It's not even worth posting the numbers any more really. It's all a state of mind with a ton of folks now.
