For those who don't know much about him...

"He plays a simple, defence first, stay-at-home game. DeKeyser is also highly mobile and a strong all-compass skater. He’s not flashy at the offensive end, but moves the puck well and gets it to the right spots by making good decisions. Efficiently gets the puck out of the zone with crisp outlets. He’s physical and wins the battles down low, keeps the crease clear, and plays with a bit of a nasty edge. He’s an outstanding penalty killer who blocks a ton of shots."

Leafs can be like "look, 3/4 of our defence is made of AHL players. Play there for a bit and you're guaranteed to play in the bigs!"

But yeah, not expecting anything really.

Hope we get him .. I have more hope for a college FA defenceman being and impact in the NHL in the future than a forward simply because defensemen take longer to develop

Why is DeKeyser so intriguing? Aside from the fact that he’s perceived to be NHL-ready right now, he possesses a unique skill-set. Here’s how independent scouting service Red Line Report described him last year:

He plays a simple, defence first, stay-at-home game. He’s an outstanding penalty killer who blocks a ton of shots.

So do the Oilers give him the best chance to play next year in the NHL?

Leafs have lots of defensive depth but the Oilers apparently have nothing in the system?

Careful.

Have to laugh at these scouting reports, sometimes.
Based on this, he sounds like Chris Pronger.

Careful.

His past coach is right now the assistant coach or the head coach for the grand rapid griffins. He's from the detroit area and loved the wings as a kid. IMO it's a no brainer.

He is just collecting his free swag, food and watching some NHL before signing with Detroit.

If you sign with us you can play with previous NHL Allstars on the NHL both and AHL team :sarcasm:

While I feel like there's no chance he goes to our team, it certainly doesn't hurt to meet with the guy.

Glad to hear we're making efforts towards the college scene.

We have quite a few PMD and two way guys. A decent sized, mobile Defensive D, with a nasty edge and good at the PK would be somewhat unique in our prospect pool. That is about the best argument that could be made to him as to why to choose us.
