Leafs probably going to go with a laughable offer they did for peritroangelo; dougie will laugh and hang up same as peitro did

It would actually be super smart for them to trade Marner for a futures heavy package and used the saved money to throw a big offer at Hamilton. I'm just skeptical that the Leafs could do that with Marner.

You are 100% not getting Hamilton for only $6.5 million a year.

Try $9 million a year.
They're not trading any of the core this summer. Dubas is on record saying that.

The more realistic move would be to trade Rielly for a futures based package due to the massively inflated returns for defenseman so far. Mo needs a raise next summer so depending on his ask they may want to opt for a bigger goal scoring OFD - something they lack. Hamilton + futures from Rielly trade would only cost you about 1.5m more in cap post-extensions.

TOR has ~9.2m on hand as of now (including Rielly on the books). That alone would get a Hamilton deal done, but they need to replace Hyman. Aside from that, they've lost zero players from last seasons roster outside of pluggers like Thornton.

Whether it's the right move or not, it's possible.

Well that'll cost you big Mr. Dubas. Carolina signs him to an 8 year deal, trades him to Arizona who retains $3 million of his $9 million AAV. Since he's asking the Oilers for a 2nd in absolutely no retaining on Hyman for $500K, this should just cost Dubas his next 4 1sts to Arizona and a 2nd to Carolina for making it happen (since he set the market on this with Hyman).

Going from a 2nd to 4 1sts is extreme that's not how that works

Kyle Dubas would get into a boxing ring with Prime Tyson before he trades Mitch Marner. He's going down with the core, for better or worse. I have no expectations for the team next year but one way or another it will end any talks about Kyle Dubas and his mangerial skills.

We either pull things through and go deep, or its 1st round x6, and a organizational cleansing with a major rebuild on the horizon.

Leafs aren't getting Hamilton unless the league lets us run a 14 man roster lol

No way they can do this without parting with one of the top 4 forwards.
Its all about saying:

"they were in on it until the very end!
"Dubas tried everything he could this summer!".
"What do you expect him to do, trade marner and lose a trade!"

Anyone working for the ownerships media arm can't be trusted.

Creative?

1) Go back in time and not sign Tavares.
2) Go back in time and tell Marner and Matthews they're getting $15M/season combined, work it out themselves how they divide it up.
3) In return for passing on ~$3M/season in salary x # number of years, tell him he'll get free use of ownership's private jet/yacht/home? A free luxury box for family & friends? All-you-can eat at wherever he wants to eat for life?
4) Trade Marner, retaining no salary and getting picks/prospects in return - no roster players with any kind of cap hit.

Since none of those are going to happen, I highly doubt Dougie's coming to Toronto, except to visit.

Arizona would actually be retaining though. $3 million X 8 years. What is that worth to you, seeing as a 2nd is what he asks of Holland and a 1st is what was asked of him in the Marleau trade. That's worth at minimum a pair of 1sts +.

Where exactly did Friedman even say this?

As for the topic, only way I see this happening is if Toronto trades Reilly for forward help or draft picks to use those to get forwards) and Dougie to replace him. Either way both seem unlikely and Toronto doesn't have any money to sign him without having a trash bottom six

I wonder if AZ or Buf retain here.
Dont think this is a great move for Toronto though.

It was destroyed in 1967, now just bearing the fruit.
1967 Coach Punch Imlach said that after the Bruins ripped them apart and no one stuck up for a teammate {Brian Conacher} and they have never been the same since . Dougie the snow flake would be better off staying where he is less pressure............ The Maple Leaf fans can count on a early exit with him............go get him hahaha
