To
Kings
2024 1st
Bertuzzi @ 50% retained

To
Leafs
Roy

Kings make room on Right Defense for Clarke and Spence while also getting a 1st from 17 to 22 overall and a top 6 forward who needs a change at 50% retained. Bertuzzi could also be retained by 50% by the Kings near the deadline and sold for a 2nd + prospect if they aren't near the playoffs.

Leafs get a top 4 d to pair with Reilly and strengthen their defense and hopefully extend Roy long term.

What does everyone think ?

Bertuzzi has 6 goals. 50% retained is 2.75. That's as many goals as Lewis. Roy should return more than a 1st + cap dump if he's moved.

Arvidsson after surgery & the whole season off is probably a better option.
Bertuzzi has had a tough year but is nowhere near a cap dump at 2.75. If the kings are not in the playoff hunt near the deadline they can retain 50% and bertuzzi at 1.375 gets a 2nd plus good prospect easily. So that's 1st, 2nd + decent prospect if things happen that way.

Although the proposal is close, the reality is that the Leafs aren't a Matt Roy away from being a serious contender.

They need to hold this trade deadline and re-address the holes in the defensive games next season with their remaining cap space. However, if the rumours are factual that Kaliyev is available for a middle 6 player with some grit, then a deal of Bertuzzi (retained) and a mid round pick for Kaliyev is something that makes more sense this season for Toronto. Not sure if (or why) LA would want Bertuzzi though.

The leafs would be trying to extend Roy in this scenario. Acquiring a top 4 d in trade and adding one in UFA next year is alot more likely then adding two top 4 d in UFA.

Leafs are already jerking around Robertson, I don't think they need to double that problem with Kaliyev. Agree they should stand pat at deadline, honestly if you can get a 2nd or more for Bertuzzi I think they should sell him to recoup assets to use at the draft

This would be a good deal for the Kings if their goal is to miss the playoffs this year or be quickly eliminated in the 1st round if they made it in.

If the Kings are dropping they should shop Arvy and Roy for the highest picks, fire Blake this off season and reset with some draft capital this summer

Let’s not.

OP came up with a great proposal, let’s talk about that or possible counters. Not totally changing the dynamics of the trade.

Kindly
Bertuzzi isn't really a fit for the King's, especially with Arvidsson due back. It works for TO, but not the King's.

Bertuzzi returned a first and a 4th last season with pretty much the same level of production.
I ain’t saying he would return that now but to call him a cap dump is asinine.
