Tyson Barrie, we know he is on the block
He's not. This is not 'known' lol. He's been asked about - that's it. He has 2.5 years on his reasonable contract and we have no need to move him. And who cares about what you perceive the Leafs needs being. They sent scouts to Barrie's first game back and an insider mused about them being interested over the summer. Like I said this isn't worth discussing and I won't continue to do so after this post.
That said you don't get to use points in an argument for Tyson Barrie
Why not? Because you said so? His value doesn't change just because you think he's on the block and because you think the Leafs don't need him. His value is his value. Period. End of discussion.

Someone mentioned earlier as well when talking about the Avs Defense being small and mentioned Cale Makar as small at 5"10.

He's not 5"10. He measured at 5"11.25 at the combine last year, and he has grown a fair amount since then. There's a few photos of him standing up next to other guys at the World Juniors earlier this year where it's clear he's taller then that now(One was a photo with Dante Fabbro where he looked to be the exact same height).

I suspect he's over 6"0 and might even be pushing 6"1 at this stage.

If we do move Barrie or even if we dont, our Defense will be pretty solid for size going forward. Timmins is also 6"1 and pushing 6"2 as well.

If this is true, can you imagine the D parings for the next couple of years for Toronto?
Reilly - Zaitsev/Barrie
Gardiner - Barrie/Zaitsev
Hainsey - Dermott

Carrick, Borgman as extras!

hainsey and gardiner are gone after 2019. this would be the case for next season only.

I assume it would be Marner plus for Barrie from the leafs.

What is an acceptable plus? A prospect and a 1st rounder?

Ive noticed Ottawa is losing a lot too, as well as Arizona, Buffalo, Florida, etc.. I guess Karlsson, OEL, Ristolainen, Ekblad, etc.. are all bad too then right?

Regardless of his point, if Barrie was the Avs best player you MIGHT have a counter argument here. However we are talking about a guy who barely cracks the top 4 on a bottom feeder and is bad in his own end. This is a fact.

He is not a top 4 D for us. He is a sheltered 5v5 D who can run the PP. We have a player who can fill this role already in the system who would be ready as early as next year if they wish.

Unless he comes cheap this is a deal that makes literally NO sense.

WTF? lol. Barrie is neither of those things. Just because he's small and puts up numbers doesn't mean he's Kevin Shattenkirk. Barrie plays the second most 5v5 minutes of any Avalanche defenseman. He's historically an awful PP producer but one of the best in hockey 5v5.

He's a top 40 defenseman. Calling him anything less than a #2D is simply wrong. You can be one of those guys who says something like "ideally he's your #3 on a contender" but that doesn't discredit where he is relative to the league. Ideally my second pairing is Josi-Doughty since Hedman-Karlsson is my top pairing.

You literally just proved how little you know about Tyson Barrie. He is in no way a PP specialist. Most Avs fans can't stand him on the PP. For a guy that constantly scores about 50pts from the blueline it's shocking how poor he produces on the PP. Of his career 219pts, only 74 have come on the PP, that's about 33%, which means 66% of his production comes at even strength or shorthanded. That means 2/3rds of this productions comes from 5v5 play. Compare that to a guy like Shattenkirk who has scored approximately 49% of his points during his career on the PP. That is a guy who relies on the PP to get points. Barrie does not rely on the PP for his production.

As for him being a bad defender, that's just a farce. I won't go and call him a stud on defense but he is more than tolerable and very capable of top 3 minutes. There is absolutely no need to "shelter" him, as he is constantly a 22-24 minute a night guy and does just fine most nights.

Barrie would easily slot into the Maple Leafs top 4 possibly even your top pair. The only dman on your roster that is better than Barrie is Rielly. Barrie is every bit as good if not better than Gardiner.

It's laughable how uninformed your post is, maybe next time you post about how bad a player is you should actually do some research instead of just spouting off stuff that sounds good to you to make your point.

  • Since 2014/15 up to today, Barrie has averaged the most even strength minutes per game out of any of the 74 guys who've put on the Avs uniform in that timeframe
  • Since 2013/14, the year he entered the league, to today, Barrie has the 9th most even strength points of any defender. Karlsson, Burns, Hedman, Pietrangelo, Keith, Josi, and Subban are the only D who've produced more at even strength since Barrie joined.
Your conclusion: "Barely cracks top four, sheltered at 5 v 5, powerplay specialist" :dunce:

Trying hard for that 'dumbest-post-of-the-day' award, eh?

I don't think Marner needs a plus. That's a return that should work 1-for-1 if both teams are open to moving those players.

This first paragraph leads me to believe that you have a very tenuous understanding of what a fact is. Barrie has been Colorado's second best dman since breaking through and is completely adequate in his own end. It's not what makes him special, but it's not an issue either.
