Would be nice to try to trade JVR for some help on D.. then blow some cash in the offseason on a d-man

Would be nice, but likely won't happen, since then we'd lose Carrick in the expansion draft.

I don't think our D is that bad, half of the problem is Polak, and the other half is forwards like JVR/Bozak who don't execute their defensive assignments.

Hyman has no business playing on any first line. Even in our AHL team he's not a first liner. He's a good third liner

Seems like Hyman is the new Daniel Cleary for Babs. I've noticed that Nylander rarely passes to him any more, even if he's wide open, rightly so because knows if he does he'll never get the puck back.

Alright so 9? games in and this thread has taught me

- Fire Babcock
- Trade Rielly for Trouba
- Trade Gardiner for a bottom 6 defensive specialist
- Trade Kadri and JVR

Come on guys. Things first of all have TONS of time to change. We have seen flashes, it will take time for consistency to find itself. We may not make the playoffs, but shouldn't our starts be evidence enough?

We're a better team, and going from Last in the NHL to 5th or 6th OA like the Jets had last year is an IMPROVEMENT. Don't forget we are coming out of selling anything we could and our best players are 20 and under.

This is where the building comes. We'll play and hopefully finish between 5th-playoffs, and can say we seen the growth like Buffalo and the Jets. Then draft a nice D prospect, sign a good top 4 UFA, and make a trade in the offseason for some help.

Come back next year with a year of experience. It will probably still be rough next year, it takes time to learn how to dominant the NHL.

Looks like I took the right game to miss.

Disappointed to go from a great game to a dud. This is the consistency problems we'll see all year probably.

We don't have a lot of veterans, but we need them to be a whole lot better. If they can't rise up more, why are they even here? It feels like if the kids are having an off/bad game, we get spanked.

Why are they here? Because there are few customers for them. It took a long time to unload Phaneuf, for example.

Bad
Jvr, Bozak and Polak
Defensively these payers suck. Jvr and Bozak don't seem to want to work hard enough in the D zone.

I think it is time to trade these players. They will always suck in the D zone.

Gardner it's almost like he has taken a step back as a defenseman. Offensively he is OK but Defensively he sucks

They are supposed to be leaders:

While there were a couple of mentions on the broadcast about the Leafs’ young players not knowing how to play in a back-to-back, Tyler Bozak and James van Riemsdyk’s line was on for four goals against, got chewed up by the Islanders’ fourth line for two early, and were outpossessed in their five minutes head to head against that Cal Clutterbuck, Casey Czikas and Nikolai Kulemin unit. Mike Babcock called them out after the game: “They need to be a lot better. Bozak and [JVR] have got to lead.”

They haven't been good or consistent at all. It's like they can't wait to get out of town.

Definitely a little concerning seeing your 'veterans' getting completely carried by the rookies.

Concerning for sure. Sit one or both if they want to float. Not the kind of work ethic you want to see from vets on a young team

Pretty sure that "trade Rielly for Trouba" was a troll.

By the way, doesn't anyone know that Gardiner has always been like this? Slow start to the season, then kills it in the last half? If you want to trade him, at least wait until he starts to gain more value lmao

Consistently playing with the worst wingers on the team will do that to a player. Put Marner on his wing for more than a period and see what happens.

Probably the same thing that happened when they tried Marner on Kadri's wing in the preseason; Kadri ignoring Marner entirely in favor of trying to drive through multiple defenders, and losing the puck... again. People forget that there was talk from the coaching staff before preseason started about putting Kadri and Marner together? Any creative puck-carrying player placed on Kadri's line is worthless.
