The fact that the organizers didn't book out the hotels is such a f***ing mis-step. General population staying at the same hotels as the players.

Corey Pronman says there was a large wedding at one of the hotels the teams were staying at.

Incredible.

let’s be honest, whether it was booked out or not the chances of players getting it was high.

Perhaps it could be played in April 2022 or something like that.

Great listen on Ray and Dregs with IHHF president yesterday. He said they have 20 tournaments scheduled between now and May, so earliest he said they could reschedule the women's U18 would be June.

They should have just made the kids all live alone for a year, just to be safe. Then come to the tournament. That way we can ensure nobody gets COVID or even comes close to getting COVID. We wouldn't want that as the safety of the children is the #1 priority. They should probably just keep the kids in the hotel until 2023 just to be perfectly safe. We can't risk any of them passing it on to anybody, just incase you know. I know they didn't have any symptoms but the best approach is to be as safe as possible.

Could just be sheer incompetence. Whatever it is, the fact that we are two years into this thing and still are trying to stop or control the spread of an airborne respiratory virus is nonsensical.
Even worse (better) it’s droplet so it isn’t as infectious as airborne.
Don’t get coughed on, wash your hands, stay 6 feet away from infected people

It isn’t going away. Let’s move on for f*** sakes. Get vaccinated and get on with it

The most elite tournament and the reason HF was born. Now it's all for none.

I wonder if HF will lose their sponsors.

Kidding.

In terms of safety protocols and parameters, this tournament was very poorly organized. If the threshold for forfeiting games was so low, it really should have never been held in the first place.

Even without omicron if this was the bar the chance of making it through the tournament without a positive test was almost nil. As you say, if that was the requirement it should have been cancelled well before all the players and staff travelled there. You have to question the competence of the people in charge.

I also know there are some very disappointed young kids who have been following the tournament, especially with the Leafs sidelined.

We already are vaccinated. Among the highest rates in the world in this country and we’re still living in a dystopian sh*t hole and have a segregated society all while we have record case counts.

Between this and the NHL delays - just a complete joke. Tired of being governed by the incompetent. Time to get back to normal. Not this new normal garbage most of us have to deal with on the daily.

If Canada continues on this path, good luck to Dubas trying to re-sign guys like Matthews when they can play somewhere without the mandates/restrictions, with better weather, and make more money.

Honestly that’s what came to mind for me. If Canada continues to implement these strict measures it’s going to drive athletes away from signing in Canada unfortunately.

Having it in Red Deer was a misstep right from the beginning. That's like the anti-mask capital of Alberta, sharing open access hotels was never a good idea.

Still cancelled. Vaccines haven’t done its job.

It’s becoming more clear by the day.

People need to live life and move on. Enough already

Agree almost 100%, though I'd say the vaccine still does its job in "limiting" major issues. However, it hasn't done what the MSM spewed it would when pushing the vaccine during its infancy, and that's where the issue lies for many. They were promised that if they got double vaxxed, life would go back to normal for them, it hasn't.
