William Nylanders don’t grow on trees - they really don’t have a choice.

That said, it’s no coincidence, the last time the Leafs truly mattered, their goalies were Cujo and Ed Belfour.

That market demands a star goalie and they haven’t had one for twenty years.

Don't throw stones in glass houses, the cap is projected to be 87m at best, let's see a source for 100m in 3 years lmao.

It'll be 92 in 2 years. Maybe not 100 million in 3, but should be in the mid 90s by then

Based on League revenue last year, the cap should be at $92m right now if it were not for the debt owed by the players from the covid fallout.

Hopefully they can capitalize while Woll is on his ELC. Things might become dicey should he really establish himself. Him and Knies both RFA at same time Tavares and Marner are UFA.

This franchise has absolutely no balls whatsoever. This is the most obvious career year contract since Kadri and Tre is going to give 50% on top of that. Nylander is good, but 11.25 is completely outside of what a) he is worth and b) what we can afford. Let’s just overpay the core that hasn’t won shit because doing anything else would be too hard or too risky. At least Toews and Kane won cups before they signed their franchise crippler deals, Leafs hand them out to anyone Shamahan drafted.

Scored 87 points last year, 80 points year before. Hes been trending upwards.

& those aren’t even close to 11.2M numbers.
9M is much more like it.

More than PLD/Horvat etc while playing inferior position
The scoring has gone up so it’s not that amazing that he scored 80 and 87

This contract is asking for trouble

The cap is going up to $87.7M.

If Nylander signs this contract, they'll have these players locked in for 63.995M:

Knies - Matthews - Marner
XXX - Tavares - Nylander
XXX - XXX - XXX
Holmberg - Kampf - XXX

Reilly - XXX
McCabe - XXX
XXX - Timmins

Woll
XXX

That leaves 23.7M to fill out 9 roster spots, and some pretty important ones (especially on D).

That's not a recipe for being a cup contender.
You forgot about Jarnkrok. So if you include him, Reaves, Robertson who won't be expensive, and resigning a guy like Gregor to the same contract, they'd need like one or two more league minimum players. Leaving around 19 million. Nimela will likely get his chance next year and so if they add two dman making 5 million each, it still leaves them with cap space.

Don't get me wrong, it's a dog shit way to build a team but you're backtracking from your post. You talked about the 25/26 season when you responded to me whereas I said the Tavares contract would not be burdensome for next year aka 24/25 season.
