If he learned how to place defense, This could be a massive pick for the Oilers.
Always liked him more than bouchard for example, who is a poor skater and defensive liability.

Broberg is completely different, He skates effortlessly, just incredible drive, and he seems to have developed his defensive side of the game a lot so far, love what I am seeing.

Good Shit Oilers fans

I like Brobergs upside more as well, he has that “all situations 25 mins/night potential”. Bouchard seems more of a 2nd pairing PP specialist, and nothing wrong with that. Anytime you pick a D man in the top 10, if they become a true top 4 then it’s a good pick. Those players are hard to find.

Broberg looks absolutely massive now too, definitely looks bigger than the day he was drafted which listed him at 6’3. He’s probably more in the 6’4/6’5 range now with that flawless skating his potential is intriguing.

He’s reported to have really been putting in time working on his defensive game in Sweden. It certainly looked that way against the Czechs, he was physical and dominant away from the puck in a way we haven’t seen internationally from him. I was more impressed with his defensive play than I was with the 3 points, had a massive open ice hit as well.

This could end up being a home run pick by Holland if Broberg hits his trajectory. Lots of reports about him being an extremely hard working pro who genuinely wants to improve his play. We joke about “intangibles” with players, but they really do matter.

I think he was a good pick but I don't see 25 minute a night minute munching D in him at all. He's never shown to me that he's capable of that level of consistency.
What I see in Broberg is the ultimate 2nd pairing prospect. He's very hit and miss. When he looks good, he looks really good. But the opposite is true and happens too often.

Due to his great tools I can see him being someone that flirts with top-pairing or even #1D potential for many, many years. But I see a guy that is just a little lacking in several areas, and when you combine that with poor consistency it's very difficult to see him reaching that level.

Even if he “only” topped out as a #2/3 D man, which given the toolset he has it seems like a decent bet, that’s something you take all day long at pick #8.

Those types of players are hard to come by and rarely hit free agency until they’re past their peak. Some exceptions happen. But generally, good quality top 4 D men pretty much need to be drafted and developed unless you overpay for them in a trade. Teams highly covet those types of players.

Awful game tonight. Noticeably bad in the first period.

Ray Ferraro near the end of the game:
“Broberg is struggling this game. He’s getting beaten way too easily. It’s very noticeable”.

It has to be concerning when a prospect playing the WJC in his draft +1 year is playing so poorly.

What do you guys think? Not looking for any excuses. I mean he was taken ahead of Zegras who’s dominating as he should.

Put the full quote up instead of trolling like you did on the Oilers thread. He's injured obviously.

Why dont you post the full quote from Ferraro, or does that not work for your bias?

Don’t take this guy seriously. He’s a clown whose been trolling the Oilers board all night about Broberg. When anyone with eyes and anyone whose seen him play before, knows that he was clearly in some sort of pain tonight. He was not himself.

This a garbage post. Do better.

He missed their last game with an injury you moron. Contrast his first game of the tournament to now. Are you trolling? Videos of him barely able to walk through the lobby to the elevator while his teammates take the stairs.

Get a brain.

There abounds highly ranked prospects who had poor WJC showings, who turned out as great NHL players.

He is 19. Little early to be panicking.

He also has an ankle injury and was gutting it out playing through injury. Zero reason for panic or a thread like this one on Prospects sub.

Playing on one leg and still did this:
