And 23-year-old, 6'3" Daniil Misyul is in Utica while the Devils toss players like Luke Hughes and Simon Nemec into the NHL before they are ready, why? Doesn't seem to make much sense.

Because Misyul isn't an NHL caliber hockey player, and Luke and Nemec are the 2 best dmen we have? Makes complete sense

Nemec and Luke Hughes have tremendous potential. At this stage in their career however neither are NHL defenseman (let alone the best two defensemen) on the team. Luke Hughes is -20 with the bulk of his points coming on the power play.

In the long-term both players have far greater potential than Misyul. Today they are not better defensemen.

if you've read the report of the primary Utica observer on the NJ board you'd get the impression that Misyul has some promise but is not yet an NHL caliber defender. He'd play a similar role to Bahl and NJ has too many young defenders in the lineup for now but they really have to develop Luke and Nemec.

With Luke Hughes on the ice at 5v5, NJD generates 56% of shots, and 54.2% of expected goals.
With Simon Nemec on the ice at 5v5, NJD generates 51% of shots, and 55.6% of expected goals.

Among the 208 dmen in the NHL with at least 500 minutes, both of these expected goal marks are top 30. They are the highest marks on the devils.

Luke Hughes +/- is skewed by horrific goaltending and the empty net (as well as being stuck with godawful brendan smith to start the year). With Luke Hughes, and not Brendan Smith on the ice at 5v5, NJD generates 56.35% of expected goals, a mark that would rank him 14th among NHL dmen.

Jonas Siegenthaler and John Marino have taken significant steps backwards this year.
Brendan Smith has been horrific.
Bahl has been overwhelmed, and him and Smith are awful at the breakout passes that NJD needs.

But Luke Hughes gets all the blame. Frankly he's been an upgrade on Graves, and Nemec has been an upgrade on Severson. The issue is losing Hamilton, and significant declines from Siegs and Marino.

Saying Misyul could handle 20+ minutes a night at the NHL level is utter delusion.

But yeah, NJD totally would have been better off trotting out:

Misyul-Marino
Bahl-Miller
Hatakka-Desimone

For a significant stretch of the season.

To be fair, Misyul looked good in preseason and has acquitted himself reasonably well on a struggling Utica team. Hopefully he gets a chance to stick as at least a seventh defenseman in camp next season. He does bring a physical style that NJ could use more of.

Its in the title "LD Daniil Misyul"

Misyul was held in Utica because LD Brendan Smith filled in for the lone injury at LD.
