You pay American taxes when playing on the road in America so the difference is not as big as you think.

Not to mention being paid in USD living in Canada so I don’t think money was a factor here.
Edmonton is also substantially cheaper to buy a house than Seattle is.

I really dislike Barrie's game as a top-4 defenseman

I think if hes your #5 and PPQB youre actually a contender
The Oilers don't really need a PPQB defenceman with McDavid, Draisaitl, and RNH on the ice. A scoring threat from the point would be way more useful.

Great move to trade for and protect Kieth instead of signing Larsson early.

Holland will soon release an aggressive interview in which he states he knew Larsson was leaving or some bs. He’s always the smartest guy in the room in his own opinion.

What contender could pay Barrie market rate to only be the fifth defenseman?
Thats a good point.

Barrie is a bit of a paradox to me, to be honest. He seems like a player you sign to build with not contend with

I'm really curious as to what Oiler fans think what an acceptable $$ amount and term is to sign Barrie.

Wonder if its weird for Barrie to see the Oilers willing to go 8 years with Hyman but not more than 3 with him
