It shouldn't. They're entirely different players. Which role are they trying to fill, or is it just a matter of spending to the cap on whatever toy they can stuff into their shopping cart? And if they "need" Barrie then it's time to trade Bouchard for a forward. Enough waiting on a next year that isn't coming.

Jokes aside, Barrie was a great fit for Edmonton, and bringing him back is a good move if the price is OK.
He played the most minutes with McDrai. There was an article in the Athletic that showed how inflated his actual numbers were, the guy thrived on secondary assists. Regardless, the oilers drafted a one dimensional pp specialist 10th overall in 2018, signing Barrie long-term blocks him and makes him redundant.

Barrie for once brought consistent puck movement from the backend so no surprise on the secondary assists. Larsson just rims it out the boards or shoots it out of the zone. He’s pretty useless offensively. In fact, I argue what is the point of being elite defensively if all you do is give the puck away leaving the zone?

Bouchard is more a Schultz clone. I love how your assessment of him is just parroting draft day analysis without any insights.

Oof. Terrible.

Poor Oilers. I’m sure they will tell us how amazing and elite Barrie is though.

Judging by his recent pressers and interview with Bob McCowan, its looking more and more that Holland seems to be out of touch with Today's NHL? Anyone else seeing that?
Are you familiar with Ken Holland's body of work over at least the last decade?

Yes. He;s well respected and has allot of league wide connections.. What made me question his current ability is mainly the interview with McCowan. He dismissed refs put their whistles in their pockets during the playoffs and didn't think it was unfair or hindered McDavid.

Edit: I'm honestly not sure if you meant to praise or criticize Holland

I would like Barrie if the Oilers didn't have Bouchard but I see no need for Barrie at this point. I would rather a Savard or Hamonic type D-man over Barrie.

Reignited negotiations? Were negotiations off?

You'd have to think this increases Barrie's leverage big time.

Barrie was pretty good for Edmonton last year. As long as he isn't paid like a top pair d-man, this isn't that bad. We do need to figure out a top four shutdown defenseman though.
