Reilly Smith - 3rd round pick?
Ned - 3rd or 4th?
Petttersson - two 2nds?
Jake - 1st, prospect, roster dump
Lars Eller - 3rd?
Rakell - Bad cap swap?
Jeff Carter - Absolutely nothing, but maybe goes to a contender with 50% and a third team eating cap for like a 5th and a 7th ala Nick Bonino last year.
Ruhwedel - 6th or 7th.

Rakell scored 60 points last year. Pettersson is an excellent top4 D signed through next year for $4M. Two seconds is horrible.

I feel like Crosby and Malkin, at least, have earned the right to retire as Penguins. There's something to be said for playing an entire career for one team.

Depends on if he's getting input from Sullivan. If Sullivan had a say, the "core" would be Crosby and the talent-less 4th line plugs, so guys like Malkin, Rakell, Guentzel, Karlsson, etc. would be available.

There is basically no trade that can make this team competitive. Look at how much roster turnover has happened in the last 5 years and then realize the same issues have been persistent the entire time.

The only chance this roster has is purging the coaching staff and finding a new system, this one is obviously stale.

I think plenty of teams would take Malkin. Letang is likely a little trickier.

Neither is moving, but it's not like they are being overpaid for what they are providing. Letang is 21st in points and 43rd in cap hit amongst defensemen with very little 1st power play time.

Malkin is 30th in points for a center and 41th in production. This is while playing with the ghost of Reilly Smith and Drew O'Connor as his most common line mates. I imagine a team like the Rangers, Carolina, or the Colorado Avalanche would love to add him.

Would be a lot more interesting if the core pieces were on the table and willing to get traded out of Pittsburgh.

Worth a lot more than that. He has blossomed into one of the best defensive d-men in the league and he's on an amazing contract.
