I've always liked Kulemin but he's been either miscast or overpaid. Penalty killing and solid/safe defensive hockey was arguably the biggest weakness the Isles had last year - Kulemin's one of the best at that.....but this Isles team can't afford to pay him $4MM to do that. They're already paying too much for Cizikas, Clutterbuck to do the same thing. And they should be able to find players who can provide the same, for much less. And it's definitely not Wagner, Quine, Prince or the other 3rd/4th line hacks they had last year - even with a new coach.
I think Lamoriello's a great judge of talent and isn't afraid to make bold moves. I don't think that'll change now that he's on Long Island - at least I hope not.
I suspect he'll get a goalie right away, like he did in getting Schneider once Brodeur was at the end of the line. Like he got Freddie Andersen immediately after successfully finishing last to get Auston.
And how me makes people disappear (like Robidas, Lupul), well, let's just say if there are some bad contracts, Lou will find a way. Remember when he sent Mogilny to the minors for most of the season to save cap space?
