What would it take to get kovy to broadway? I think he's be a perfect 3rd/2nd line winger and power play specialist and mentor to our young Russians already here and the ones to come. Next season we should see panarin buchnevich and kratzov all making in the top 3 lines. These guys probably grew up with him on their walls.
What are some of LAs needs? Rangers are loaded in prospect depth . Kakko kratzov Fox are definitely not.available, I don't wanna see kreider go but he is rumored to be moved but he doesn't make sense to LA to me but any thoughts how rangers could end up trading for Ilya Kolvalchuk?

Kovalchuk - $6.25 mil cap hit.
Rangers - $1 mil cap space.

If Kings take Marc Staal back, sure there could be a deal to be made.

I don't see one way Kovalchuk fills a need for the Ranger.

kings retain some salary as well as send staal or if it's a big deal with kreider for kovy ++ and salary retained...
have you guys seen Tampa bay's roster? Money can always be moved to load a team

We could actually use a left shooting dman to hold things down until our prospects develop. Is Staal that bad these days that he'd be considered a cap dump?

I'd consider Kovalchuk for Staal and a draft pick.

I'd do Staal and Boo Nieves for Kovalchuk, but that is all I'd offer.

Marc's arguably the best Staal that's played for the Rangers.

Staal sucks. He has no transition game. Can't handle the puck. He's a great vet and does what he can at this point in his career, but he's most definitely a cap dump.

Send Kreider, who had 52 points last year, for Kovy, who had 34?

Or Staal, a cap dump?

This deal requires LA to withhold, or take back a cap Dump... that's starting to make the price go up quite a bit... for a guy who is maybe a middle six player, but most likely a third line guy. I'm not sure how this makes any sense, for anyone.

I hear Russians love the hit Anastasia. That might be a good way to get him to Broadway.

Playing for the Rangers.... entirely different story as others covered well above.

If it was Staal for Kovalchuk, the Kings would be spending more cash from today in the deal. $8.2m for Staal, $4.95 for Kovalchuk. That a big difference for a team that is no longer investing money into the roster for a while. The Kings could retain 8.8% to make the cap even out for the Rangers, but that's doing a favor for the Rangers(assuming they would want Kovalchuk), and it's another couple bucks to add to the difference the Kings are paying. There would have to be a decent draft pick add to the trade from the Rangers, in quality or quantity. Then there's Staal's NMC, and why would he want to leave a team that just added Panarin, Trouba, and Kakko?

Can't see where the deal is coming from.

It would take Kovy being on an ELC and the Kings taking back Staal at the very least. To sum up this proposal:

Thinking the same. Make it a condition ridden pick that fully depends on Kovalchuk's production. If he does good then they pay more if not they pay less win/win

I don't see the point of this, other than that I've always liked Kovalchuk and it would be neat to see him in a Rangers jersey, but now is not the time.

Kovy is making almost what Shatty was due, >>$6M for 2 more years, which NYR went to great pains to get away from, and then only slightly

Kovy is 36, is not the player he used to be

Kovy, at this stage, is type of player that might get picked up by a contender who thinks they are a piece away.
Or maaaaybe by a franchise that needs to generate attention,
NYR time-frame to Cup compete probably only gets serious after Kovy's deal ends

would i appreciate a veteran Russian to support Panarin and mentor Buch, Krav, Rykov, Shesty?
yes
but Kovy at $6M+, and for the price of a genuine prospect, ain't that guy, no thanks

If Staal is that much of a boat anchor, than I think the Kings would rather hold on to Kovalchuk, hope he has a nice season, and move him for a draft pick or two to another team. We don't need another Phaneuf.

Kovalchuk does have an NMC. I think he'd waive it for NYR if these teams came to an agreement.
