so he left his job with the Kings as an assistant GM because he wasn't being used to his full potential to come to Toronto to be an assistant GM?

Fire Benning, give me Futa.
He could make a lateral move.

MLSE can afford to pay him handsomely if they want him on their managerial team.

He might very well appreciate coming to home to the GTA if there's a nice package waiting for him.

Why would he make a lateral move if he left the Kings because it's a waste of his talents though? That makes no sense, he left because he wants to be a GM.

Losing Futa is going to sting. He has been destined to be a GM in the NHL for a very long time, but LA has done a crazy job at keeping him happy in LA while not promoting him to GM, but I guess that couldn't go on forever. He is going to make some lucky organization a lot better next season. LA just lost the biggest piece of their drafting and development program.

I recall his name did come up during a couple of GM searches like in Philly and Carolina. Did LA give him permission to interview for those jobs? I don’t recall.

HE declined all of them. He was very happy in LA with his family. His contract was up and maybe he felt it was time to take a gm job somewhere else, and he knew it wouldn't be happening in LA. Mutual parting of ways, no hard feelings. He's a smart dude, and I wish him luck.

At least in the case of the Carolina search, the Kings gave permission for an interview. He did one interview and then withdrew as a candidate.

why is everyone here saying they should replace bergevin with him I get that hes been the Gm for a long time but the last few years its finally looked like hes turned a corner and I think has been one of the best GMs in the NHL for the past two years id rather him have then Dim Benning and a bunch of Other GMs in the league.

If only there was a team 90 miles from Toronto who currently have the worst GM since Milbury who could replace said terrible GM with Futa...

yeah the Sabres would be a good fit. Futa would be starting off with some pretty impressive building blocks in Eichel and Dahlin.

Same as all the other rookie GMs we've tried, all of whom were also touted as "up and comers," and they've all sucked ass. Give me a guy whose resume conslusively demonstrates that he knows how to do this job well.

The problem is that the word is out on the Pegulas being the most incompetent ownership in the entire sport. Guys with a track record that you would want running a team will never come here because working for the Pegulas is essentially a suicide mission with zero chance of success, which is why entry level guys who just want an NHL GM job are the only ones who will give our organization the time of day.

You do understand the title doesnt define what tasks you're given or if your input is being taken more or less right?

So if nobody gives him a gm job, what would he do, not take a league job? Being an AGM doesnt mean he's going to have what he feels his talents being wasted everywhere. Some teams will give a guy more to do in that role than others.

A team like Toronto has a lot of people under Dubas. Would he really get as much responsibility in that organizational structure vs what he had in LA?

TO has a huge management staff, 22 compared to the Kings' 9.

those people don't get fired. or call up Mike Gillis and offer him the literal sun, moon and stars. he would do very well in an environment like Buffalo.

He has been rumored for every GM job for multiple years now but no team has selected him, even teams with much worse management.

Something has to be up here?

He didn't want to leave LA, The Kings would let him be interviewed, but he wasn't necessarily looking to leave ever if i recall correctly.
