It actually is good, he is not playing his normal game, and needs to be sent a message to that point. I wish we would do the same with Staal, and I am glad we did the same with Pionk. That all being said, I don't expect wins this year, but I do darn well expect effort. Zucc and Zbad are also in this boat. Sit them all if they continue to look disinterested.

Of course, then we tank their trade values (in Zucc's case)

Every team has some bad contracts they'd like to forget if you look back 15 years, but the Rangers have to be far and away the leaders in this category, of signing big money duds.

To be fair, seems to be a thing with all NY sports clubs, pressure to go after big name vets. You just get punished more for it in the NHL hard cap system than say the Yankees would in MLB.

Habs have just signed Alzner last year, to a crazy contract, and he is getting scratched also...........the vets can no longer coast I guess...in both of these teams cases, the GM's and coach's must now be on the same page.

Did you all forget there were other teams with offers on the table for longer term and more money? This is not a bad contract. This is a guy coming off injury that is not playing his game very well, so we sat him to send a message that he needs to work harder at getting back to being him.

Just because there were better offers doesn’t mean this wasn’t a bad contact.

Hayes is benched tonight as well.

It's a bad contract for the Rangers and any other team that offered him money. Most people know he is absolutely trash defensively. As an Isles fan I laughed when they signed him mainly b/c my Rangers fans friends were bragging about it like he was the second coming of Jesus. Told them all they will regret it. The Caps knew he was bad at defense and the Blues knew he was bad at defense. The Rangers needed a good defensive dman when they signed him not a liability who puts up points.

To me a bad contract is someone you can't trade. I can pretty much guarantee you we can still trade Shatty for a 1st or more, and we got him for nothing.

If someone traded a 1st for Shattenkirk right now it would be insane they would be ridiculed, but Gomez was traded for assets so who knows

He's always been a PP specialist, who can only handle sheltered bottom pair duty. Now that he's aging and injured, I'm not even sure he's that anymore.

Insane that people legitimately argued he was a #1 dman.

He was around a point per game for 12 or so games last year while hurt. Now he's had 3 bad games and maybe he's not even a bottom pairing player? Let's get a way bigger sample first.

Always overrated, he showed his true colors when he went to the Caps and was playing horribly.

Not even saying it against Rangers fans either. I feel bad for you guys. All the Devils fans wanted him soooo bad and I was like wow you guys think this guy would save the team especially with a high cap hit? A poor defenseman.
