could be worse, you could have signed him for 6-7 years at that price which I am sure some GM's would do for an offensive dman of his ilk. he forewent some term to sign with the Rangers it seems

Always overrated, he showed his true colors when he went to the Caps and was playing horribly.

Not even saying it against Rangers fans either. I feel bad for you guys. All the Devils fans wanted him soooo bad and I was like wow you guys think this guy would save the team especially with a high cap hit? A poor defenseman.
Literally no one said that.

Remember when Shattenkirk was supposed to be the Norris trophy d-man? Now he's a healthy scratch on a not so good team?

Interesting

Edit: Safe to say, the Avs won that trade because EJ is still playing very well and has never been a healthy scratch

Johnson isnt a bust. He is a big physical defenceman. He is very good in his own end. Not terrible offensively.
Everyone thinks because he was a first overall pick that he should score more. That's not his game. He is a good 2way dman that is physical.
Shattenkirk on the other hand is a joke in his own end. He is pretty much a pp specialist.

It's a joke. Where is the urgency for the rest of the team? Why isnt Quinn sitting Zibenejad for being useless? Better yet, Marc Staal who has been abysmal. I dont even like Shattenkirk, but to single him out from a defensive core that is AHL caliber is ridiculous.

What's hilarious to me is signing him to that deal even after he shat the bed in the playoffs with Washington. If you can't make yourself look good on that powerplay with that amount of talent i think its a big clue.

Agents are miracle workers in the NHL or Owners are just that dumb.

Your misery

Go check my last few posts, see if I'm in "misery". This rebuild is expected and on track so I'm pretty cool and chill with the direction this team is going. Just seems like fans like yourself are much more worried about the Rangers than actual Rangers fans.

Come on board, it will be a fun ride my friend!

Far be it for me to praise the Rangers, but I actually like this move. Quinn has demanded more accountability from his players in three games than Vigneault had in his entire stint as coach, especially when it comes to defense. Sure, you can make a case that Staal should be a healthy scratch instead, but benching a massively underachieving Shattenkirk and a “grit and grind” guy like McQuaid to start the year is something. If Staal keeps sucking, then I wouldn’t be surprised to see him benched.

However, I’m glad the Devils didn’t get Shatty. I was freaking out when he went with the Rangers for less term than what we and the Sabres were offering. Hindsight is 20/20.

Could be a ton of things behind the scenes. It isn't always about on ice performance. Could be a "work harder" situation. Could be a "play the system I have set up, stop doing your own thing" situation. Tons of possibilities.

Canucks will trade Louie Eriksson straight up.

We need a puck mover like Shatty on the back end more than anything.
You would think that a high paid defenseman that can’t play defense could move the puck well, but he actually can’t. He also can’t skate.

Literally useless in 2/3 zones.
