Duncan Keith, Bryan Bickell, Corey Crawford, Brandon Saad, Adam Clendening, Stephen Johns, Dave Bolland, Brandon Pirri. A lot of sniffing the NHL for Hawks 2nd rounders. 4/8 Hawks draft picks from 2007-2011 are NHL players. After 2011, too early to judge, before 2007 is a whole different group of people making the decision.

The exceptions to the rule doesn't prove the rule. And it's way too soon to tell whether our scouts are "better" than other scouts at picking out talent beyond the first round.

Discounting 2010, which may be too early to tell, there is about a 33% chance that any second rounder will have "a career" in the NHL (and I've included obviously borderline players). Factually, and going by Hockey Reference numbers, for second round picks:

2010: one player with 180 games, 2 with low 70's. Hawks with four picks, and only one (Johns) looks like he'll make it.

2009 7 players with over 80 games played, and a few more looking like they may have a career.

2008 10 with over 80 games played.

2007 7 with over 80 games played.

2006 13 (!!!) with over 80 games played.

2005 11 with over 80 games played.

2004 9 with over 80 games played.
