Tonight must have been real tough for you. I've also noticed you've decided to leave out assists.

Sorry I meant total points - he was tied for 54th in league points - he's now tied for 36th.
Goals he's 143rd Overall lol

Give him 8.5M!!!!:shakehead

Starting to notice a trend with whoever plays on his wing? It's almost as if he's making his linemates better or something.

I'm happy Phil is finding additional ways to contribute to hockey club rather than scoring goals. His on ice contributions are still nowhere near the net-return the roster team/organization would receive via trading him.

36th in League Points
143rd in league Goals

Those are the facts for our ELITE 8.5M dollar man

I love Kessel.

Anyone on this forum who bashes him having watched hockey games is a complete moron. He's been playing fantastic and although the goals aren't coming as much as we'd like he's been doing a lot of things right every night.

I hope we re-sign him long term as soon as we're able to do so.

I no for the most part you are praising Kessel but it's just annoying that everyone including your self expects Kessel to score in the top 10 every year. It's not an expectation for the likes of Henrik Sedin, Patrick Kane, Joe Thornton etc so why does it HAVE to be for Kessel? .. If Kessel put up 20 goals, 70 + points a year consistently I would be ecsatic. That is huge production... anything on top of this is just a bonus IMO. The fact he scored 30 + 4 straight years is amazing but he seems to be redefining his game to make people around him BETTER... I think he can easily score 30 + a year but then it would take away from all the great things hes doing right now and he's likely not a + player.

Funny I recall JVR playing just fine on Kadri's line
I even recall him playing pretty good with Grabo

But I guess everyone on the team owes everything they do to Phil Kessel - I forgot nothing good can possibly happen unless Phil is given credit.

All three of JVRs 2 goal games came playing with Phil.

Since when is it FACT that Phil is paid 8.5m? Not very factual on your part IMO.

To Kessels detractors over the years all that was jammed down their throats was his 30+ goal seasons.

"Phil is so good man look at his 30 goals" "Top6 in scoring he's so elite"

Now that he's not able to score - its awfully convenient how the argument is now that he's a playmaker not a goal scorer lol ... what will it be next? He's a PP specialist? Draw a line.

We gave up an awful lot for a 20 goal scorer ...

All three of JVRs 2 goal games came playing with Phil.

In other words half of his goals came playing with Phil
Half of his goals came with playing with someone else

I dont' understand how Phil is responsible for making JVR a better player ...

I didn't know Kessel could make JVR skate to the net so well.

Phil Kessel has never been just a sniper, he's always had the passing element to his game. HFBOARDS opinion on Kessel, he's one dimension, he's just a goal scorer, he's soft and fat and lazy.

Truth: He's as good a passer as anyone in the league, he expresses alot of passion on the ice for a "lazy" player, and defensively he's fine.

Hopefully Toronto continues to rise, because Kessel won't get respect until his team does.

Poor Dave.

1 dimensional sniper Kessel with 2 more awesome assists tonight.

Yup. I wonder if he has been watching the backchecking and defensive zone play that Kessel has been bringing too. Must be driving the poor guy nuts. KEssel is becoming a complete player. :amazed:

Way to go Phil. BEauty play on the 2-on-1. If the Goalie has to respect the pass it opens up the shot. If they have to respect he shot it opens up the pass. Keep'em guessing and the goals will come.

I've been watching - its refreshing to see him backcheck every other shift - its refreshing to see him occassionally be in a good defensive position in his own end instead of just waiting at the blue line for an outlet pass.

But then I have to remind myself that these things are EXPECTED OF EVERY PLAYER IN THE ENTIRE LEAGUE. THIS IS NOT A SPECIAL CASE FOR PHIL KESSEL THAT HE DESERVES PRAISE BECAUSE HE BACKCHECKS A HANDFUL OF TIMES IN A GAME.

It has been suggested on these boards many times by many posters - probably including yourself that Phil deserves a raise on his next contract in the neighborhood of 8.5M

Tied for 36th in League Scoring
143rd Overall in Goals

Would you like to dispute those facts Blasted Sabre? Or are you just here to troll

Phil Isn't getting paid 8.5M this year or next so that is a complete lie.

Pathetic.

Ya I see Hall backcheck all the time.

It's something Ovechkin learned only two years ago. Crosby maybe a year before that.

Yzerman had to learn. SO did Sakic and most every elite skilled player to come up in North America.

This is an Appreciation thread.

SO either appreciate or leave so those who appreciate can do so in peace.

JVR is tied for the 2nd in the league in goals! He's been great for us.

But is he half that without Kessel on the ice?

Does Phil have 12 assists without JVR ... or does he have 6

I think the case can be made that JVR is making Phil better. Since Phil wasn't doing anything and JVR was scoring regularily on all 3 lines he played.

He's crap, but somehow he's going to net us an ultra premium return. Seems logical.
