The winger watched good friend Tyler Bozak go through a contract year last season and knows how stressful it can be. Speaking generally, he noted that most players who hit the open market – as Bozak did – end up signing elsewhere.

“When you get to that point, a lot of guys don’t stay,” said Kessel. “If you look throughout the league I don’t think that that happens (very often).”

That could be a telling quote next summer, although plenty is sure to play out before then. Kessel is approaching the situation with an open mind.

“I don’t know how this works,” he said. “This is the first time I’ve ever been through it. So I think it’s a different year and a different process.”

keep in mind, if things hypothetically go sour this year, he may walk.

we have no clue what's going through his head.

Anything can happen really. A muther****er can literally walk in life and disappear. It's fun. But, he might actually enjoy toronto.. although nothing really indicates like that. He might enjoy that tampa/florida thing even more. All that sun and killer stuff, different type of behavior. But yeah, we will get more important players playing for us. It always works that way. Right now: Our team is the hardest in the league.

Kessel did not hide the fact he wanted out of Boston. If he wants out of Toronto then I'm sure Nonis already knows.

Kessel has a Limited NTC as well as a NMC.....which means that we can not send him to the minors and he has to submit a list of teams he is willing to be traded to....or a list of teams that he would not be willing to be traded to. Not sure on the amount of teams that he is allowed to select.

Remember Kessel only wanted out of Boston in the off season when he did not get the money he wanted....and as a RFA he made it be known that he would sign an offer sheet

...and he priced himself completely fairly with the market last time. So long as history repeats itself, there should be no worry.

Deep breath everyone, deep breath. He will re-sign. First presser Burke said Phil told him he wants to end his career here. And he will. Most players say the exact same thing when they are in a contract year. IE "No distraction, team first, focus on winning games and getting better, it will be taken care of, lots of time, blah blah blah". He will be re signed, so will Dion. These are franchise pieces, they rarely hit FA unless they don't wanna sign with their current team. We have no evidence that they do not, and have no reason not to re sign, so everyone calm down.

Boston said they would match any offer sheet and Kessel stated that it was a mutual thing for both parties to move on. He's said in an interview that he did not want out of Boston, but it was best for both sides to move on.
