TB's cap situation is pretty interesting. Looking at capfriendly they currently have 3.4m in cap space with them only needing to sign Erne which should be cheap.
They need to give contracts to Gourde and Point next year (both probably get a decent cap increase). Stralman, Girardi and Coburn come off the books next year to free up 11.2m.
So they've got Kucherov 9.5m, Stamkos 8.5m, Callahan 5.8m, Palat 5.3m, Miller 5.25m, Johnson 5m, Killorn 4.45m on offense with Gourde potentially getting what, another 4m and Point getting 5m?(probably more)
Next year that looks like this.

That's 52.8m on forwards
Killorn (4.45m)-Stamkos(8.5m)-Kucherov(9.5m)
Johnson(5m)-Point(5m)-Gourde(4m)
Palat(5.3m)-Miller(5.25m)-Callahan(5.8m)
Erne(1m)-Paquette(1m)-_____

On defense they got Hedman 7.875m and McDonagh at 6.750, that's it. (cheaper contracts like Sergachev on his 2nd year of ELC, Dotchin and Koekkoek need to resign but won't be that much)

That's 16.6m on defense
Hedman(7.85m)-______
McDonagh(6.75m)-Sergachev(ELC)
Koekkoek(1m)-Dotchin(1m)

Vasy(3.5m)
Domingue(1.15m)

4.65m on goaltending.

That's 74.05m and assuming the cap goes up to 84m in 2019-2020, that's around 10m cap space. If Karlsson wanted something like 10m per season, that's going to be quite difficult to fit. Most of Tampa's contracts last till 2022-23.
They need to give new contracts to Sergachev and Vasy in 2020-21 with only Callahan's 5.8m coming off the books.

I think they can manage to get Karlsson but they'll have to trade a couple of their forwards to do so. Maybe that happens in the Karlsson trade.

If Tampa gets EK they've dedicated the next 7 years of their cap to 2 oft injured stars. When Stamkos and EK are too beat up to compete at their usual level, they'll be just like Chicago today. Hedman will be the only real difference. Maybe Point if they can keep him out of the deal. I don't think for a second Sergachev isn't at least the starter.

Why are the Leafs staring down the barrel of paying Nylander and Marner huge dollars when Brayden Point is going to command roughly $5 million? I think Point is a lot more valuable.

You're probably right, just used that as an example. Not sure what he'd actually be worth.

I'd be happy to offer Zeitsev a 2nd & 3rd round draft pick for Karlsson. Picks conditional on Karlsson signing an extension.
Ottawa may be desperate enough to bite. We are not desperate to offer more.
Honesty man...what you have offered won't even get you a retired, fat and nearly dead player with one leg...never mind a dude like Karl

Do you see Johnson waiving his NTC for Ottawa?

Depends

NTC : CLAUSE DETAILS: July 1, 2018 – June 15, 2021: Full 'No Trade' clause. / June 15, 2021 - June 30, 2024: Player submits a 20 team trade list.

Johnson can be traded to 2/3 of the league even with a NTC

Johnson would play a much bigger role in Ottawa and get more prime TOI/g and PP time.

Maybe it requires a 3rd team involved that would send assets to OTT.

In 3 years he can be traded be to 2/3 of the league without consent, until then it's up to him if he goes anywhere unless they waive him.
