Kadri was flying last night in fact the whole line was great last night.
komarov wasn't really great. he was 30 cf% and his linemates were at 40. he also got walked really bad by Rantanen and he nearly scored. I would forgive his lack of offense if he could shut down the opposition, but he doesn't

Leo was a beast last night again. He has hurt 3 players in the last 4 games with big hits and people on here think he does not hit hard no more. He was very good last night again.

Need to get Kadri scoring though. Mitch makes sense for that.

He had a really bad game, but irredeemably awful isn't exactly honest.

Even with the 2nd lowest ZSR on the team, he still managed to have the 7th best iCF/60, and the 4th best ixGF/60.

This was done with Matt (anchor) Martin, and A mixture of Brown/Marner and he was baaaaaaad (goat joke) with Marner. Everyones been terrible with Brown/Martin He also takes a hit by the guy that's consistently stuck on the ice after a PK.

He wasn't good by any means, I just think that with better linemates and not so much of a ****show zone starts he actually has a chance of being a decent 4th liner some day.

But... what decent 4th liner plays with good line mates and good offensive ZS minutes? They typically play with other 4th liners and eat up the tough minutes for skill players. That’s their job.

You're right. But having a zsr at 30 is one of the lowest in the entire league. Sure he played against bad 4th line comp, but pretty much only played when Babs line matches.

He still was able to create shots and HD chances very well for a guy playing with Matt Martin.

True, but the two things Babcock wanted from him was meanness and strong defensive play. He brought neither.

I sure hope not, I want him to stay away as far as possible from these people here. He's not going to get anything new reading the 95% rubbish on here that he can't get anywhere else.

His zone-adjusted numbers are abysmal.

Martin is better at hockey than Fred.

yup

Goat plays way to passively and his first two steps are painfully slow , his speeds fine once he gets going but it takes him forever to get going and he's far nimble on his feet.

So are everyone's that have played with Martin, Moore and/or Brown this year (except Nylander/Marner of course). At least unlike Moore/Laich he actually had a decent iCF/60 and ixGF/60. He was creating chances.

*again I'm not saying he was good, or even average. I just don't think he was "irredeemably bad". I think his stats would look drastically different if he had Johnsson-Kapanen as his linemates.

Gauthier: 9gms, 1gls, 1pts (82gms, 9gls 9pts)

Sure, he was better than Gauthier to the point of where he is at. Martin is still a long ways away from when he was actually a good player on the Islanders.

The only time he's actually played well in a Leafs jersey is when he's played with Nylander/Marner/Boyle. Not exactly linemates you'd like to see have a Martin anchoring them.

You're right, he didn't. He was not good enough.

But saying this is the end for Gauthier or that he was "irredeemably bad" is something I don't agree with (yet). Don't strap him with plugs. Give him some young scorers on the Marlies like Kapanen and Johnsson and see what happens.

this is fair. I don't think he's NHL ready right now given how bad his stint was, but that doesn't mean he never will be

I thought Gauthier was playing well, not sure why the switch? Also Kapanen is not a centre, so I guess Moore will slot back in, but where will Kapanen play?

the answer is pretty simple, it's unfortunate but he just doesn't have NHL skating ability, he's better then he was and a little quicker then last year, but couple that with below average puck skills and there's your answer

Could see this coming, Gauthier needs more work.

like a lot of work

I'd love it if we could somehow just shed Martin and Moore, and run with:

Hyman-Matthews-Nylander
Marleau-Kadri-Marner/Kapanen
JVR-Bozak-Kapanen/Marner
Johnsson/Leivo-Gauthier-Brown

Or even better, try your best to acquire a 4C at the deadline.

Look at some of our old friends in Stajan, McKegg, or Toninato who are all playing great in 4th line C roles. Edit: relatively great compared to what we're using.

Goat has had more than enough opportunity. I have no interest bending over backwards waiting for our prospective 4th liner to blossom into a 4th liner.
