He'll do his time and be one of the "bad guys" of the league.

He's also a pest that draws penalties, and one of the hardest working, best defensive forwards we have.

We always talk about having players that we hate to play against but love on our team. We've got one and this is the **** we put up with to have him. Same as when the Rags had Avery.

My guess is somewhere from 2 to 4 games.

That said, what pisses me off the most is how everyone seems to be overreacting to this whole thing, particularly with the insults toward Kaleta and even the team and the fans:

Patrick Kaleta is a dangerous, irresponsible player. Has been for years. Game doesn't need him. Be a better place without him.

Honestly I like Kaleta. I think he'll get two at most. Had Richie not returned I think it'd be more. Blame the bad discipline system

Mark Spector is a ****ing idiot, no respect for that douch. I am getting so pissed reading all this garbage the media is spewing all the time. Kaleta makes a bad hit and he is a scum bag, Weaver makes a worse hit on Lucic and they don't even care.

he will get 10 games at least

Not even possible, nor was the push worth anything close to that. My guess is 1 for the crosscheck + 1 for the name on the jersey, maybe + another for Torts and Richards crying to the media.

I'm thinking at least 4 based on past history, the NY whining, and the media jumping all over it like they have.

People are making this out to be murder. It was a bad hit, though. Kaleta just has to be smarter than that. The guy is 3 feet from the boards, so you crosscheck him from behind? WTF is that? I think Rolston should sit him for a game when he gets back from his 3-5 game suspension. There has to be accountability from the team for a play like that, not just the league.

He was about 6 feet from the boards at point of contact. Further when Kaleta started reaching for him.

I think the fact that it cost them the game, and Kaleta knows as much, is enough grief from the coach and teammates. He'll hold himself accountable for it without further discipline.

4-6 feet is the worst area though for maximum injury from that kind of hit. Richards put himself in a terrible spot for sure but you just can't hit a guy like that. If Richards' head goes into the boards at a slightly different angle (a few degrees more center) he's a quadriplegic. For me, the fact that the play can cause serious injury should be weighed into suspension length but it's clear that Shanahan doesn't give punishments based on that. Therefore, I'd expect Kaleta to get around 4 games.

I'll second this. It's not even the media, but just people around here. The second something like this happens from someone with a reputation, it seems every douchey hockey fan comes out of the woodworks with their "holier than thou" campaign. Knocking down Kaleta for being "garbage", knocking down Sabres fans for defending him even the tiniest bit.

I'm starting to think the forums are the only place some people ever have leverage in a conversation, so they need to skull **** their "rightness" into peoples heads at every opportunity. At least it's the media's prerogative to sensationalize this stuff, what excuse do any of the folks on here have.

You can tell Kaleta wasn't trying to hurt Richards. He's not the most vile scum to ever walk the earth, contrary to popular belief. And while I understand reputations follow players, he's cleaned himself up a lot in the last few years. It was a dumb, dangerous, unfortunate play that led to an awkward fall into the boards. That's it. Suspension-worthy, absolutely... but why make it sound more vicious and intentional than it was. For all the reasons Kaleta gives you to hate him, don't pick this one that clearly wasn't meant to be more than a mild shove. C'mon...

Maybe the Rangers and MSG should get a very large fine for putting such a crap sheet of ice out there, who knows Kaleta could of pushed him over one of those ruts that made him go head first into the boards..basketball game that day is no excuse for tons of players "tripping over blue lines"..

But Kaleta did mess up bad there...5 games..
