What is the Rangers grade after day 1 (if they truly are done for the day?):

With all the factors considered (other players signing elsewhere, salary cap, etc):

I say C+ - Stralman to Boyle is an uninspiring move, Glass was just very questionable, but Dom Moore is back at a pretty fair contract.
Grade isn't affected by the Pouliot deal. But there is much more to do.

I guarantee you a lot of fans are killing their front offices more than the Rangers.

Probably a C.

I HATE that glass move. just hate it. 3 years? 1.5ish mil?

Awful. wanna sign him for a deal that can be buried in the minors? fine. but its dead cap space for a useless player.

just an awful signing. Boyle, hes an offensive upgrade over stralman, but stralman was a tremendous defender for us...might be a push.

Domonic Moore was a fantastic signing. no complaints.

In the end, as it stands right now, here's who we've (likely) lost, and here's who we've brought in.

Brian Boyle --> Glass (downgrade)

Stralman-->Dan Boyle (Push, possible upgrade, hard to tell)

Pouliot---> ??????????? (Downgrade since it'll be a kid there and youre talking about breaking up our best line, granted, theres no way i sign that deal if im the rangers)

so, as of right now, i'd say we are worse than last year...by a decent margin.

granted, its still early, lots of time.

Rangers better hope JT Miller is ready.

He's not John Scott. Sorry, but that's just cringe-worthy hyperbole.

No, it's not.

John Scott is a very bad hockey player who's a good fighter. Tanner Glass is a very bad hockey player who's a good fighter.

Just because Glass isn't a big oaf doesn't mean he's not as bad.

Glass is an exponentially better hockey player than Scott. Not sure how you can say that with a straight face.

I don't think it matters, IMO. He's a deadline deal waiting to happen.

I have been for trading Staal for offensive help quite long time now but with the department of Strålman and addition of Boyle I'm not as sure anymore. Our defense will take a huge hit.

Just because he scores 10 points more than John Scott does in a typical season doesn't equal much when he's literally awful at everything else he does.

Neither player should be in the NHL.

That's really at heart with Stralman walking.

No assets come back.

Plus you can't move Staal now, unless it for more/cheaper/younger defense.

If you use Staal to upgrade at center, you need someone young to step in and eat his minutes and I'm not sure that's possible before we have to sign or trade him.

Are you sure you know who Tanner Glass is?

He's a solid 2nd pairing PKer on Pittsburgh. The 5th best PKing team in the league.

He's exponentially faster than Scott. He at least can score now and then unlike Scott.

The two are not even comparable unless you are being willfully disingenuous in order to make a false point.

He hits, and PK's. Anything else and he is bad.

I think people are blowing it out of proportion though. He has good speed and fills a role, I just don't think he is worth that contract.
