Brad Marchand and Daniel Paille were promoted, a struggling Milan Lucic was essentially demoted, and the Bruins skated with four completely new lines during a Sunday morning practice at the TD Garden.

The shake-up:

Brad Marchand - David Krejci - Nathan Horton
Daniel Paille - Patrice Bergeron - Tyler Seguin
Milan Lucic - Rich Peverley - Jordan Caron
Jay Pandolfo - Gregory Campbell - Shawn Thornton

Asked what went into the change, coach Claude Julien said, "Because I can. Because I’m the coach. And every once in a while you have to do those things. It’s as simple as that."

Took long enough. I'd of done something after the habs game.

Don't see it as a promotion for Marchand, though.

No Spooner?

Jay Pandalfo, still putting the Bruins at a competitive disadvantage with his presence.

I like the shake-up, absolutely necessary, but why not put MacD in on 4LW? What is the ****ing obsession with Pandalfo?

Merlot needs someone who can at the very least skate on that side to be effective. Paille is obviously great at that, Pandalfo looks like he's skating in mud. MacDermid is faster right now, and he'll get in on the forecheck hard. That line, which has been arguably the B's most consistent over the last handful of games, is going to be next to useless with Pandalfo on it.

Spooner showed flashes, but also showed he was ultimately not ready for the show right now. Plenty of guys need a couple full seasons on the farm before they are prepared to contribute, and I think Spooner fits that to a 'T'. He's not mature enough or strong enough yet to handle the NHL. I think he will be, but after another full season in Providence beyond this year.

Is there really no better option than Pandolfo?

This makes no sense to me.

I would slot in McDermaid and make it a true 4th line. All the tough teams in the East are finding ways to beat us now. Toronto and Buffalo bully us around. Thorts still isn't Thorts. Someone tell me what Pandolfo brings to that 4th line???

I would much rather see Dermy in there over Pandawful.

I'll believe it when I see it gametime Monday..

I have to say, I think you will. I'm not certain about promoting Marchand to the first line, but placing Milan on the third line is a good move. As Haggerty's article today makes clear, something -- almost anything -- had to be done.

I hope this is what we see tomorrow night.

Edit: You guys are right per Lane v. Jay. Makes sense to me.

This is what I wonder as well.

I have a hard time being convinced that Pandolfo is the best thing we have in the system for the position he is playing.

Why isn't MacDermid in Providence if they aren't going to use him with the big club? If it is the PK-pretty sure he was an effective PKer with Providence and at least has more speed.

I like the idea of shaking the lines up, although I still think Horton should be demoted from the top line-he IMO is the most underperforming forward for his salary at the moment.

I suspect Paille might create some nice space on that second line, but not sure they will get much scoring out of it.

Lucic might actually help Peverly's game if Lucic will skate (Lucic really isn't that slow once he gets going).

I have my doubts that Julien will stick with the lines for the game, but I am all for it as long as it doesn't mean the front office gets the impression no trades are needed if it works out.

Not to mention I suspect at some point Lucic works his way back up into the top 6.

Could Claude be afraid of benching Pandawful as it would then appear that he was showing up Chiarelli for such an awful in season signing?

With Paille and Seguin on the second line together, that's some awesome speed. Paille should get a few tap-ins at the back post from Seguin, will he miss those also?
I can't believe Julien is using Pandolfo over McD on the 4th. That is the perfect spot for a young player.
Pandolfo can be used as the 13th man, what pictures/ secrets does he have on Claude from the NJD days?

Me too, I'd also rather see Spooner over Caron. This Pandolfo thing is getting ridiculous, no he's not the cause of all problems, but wouldn't it be better to have a young player with size and toughness, even if they can't score to save their life (because it's not like Pandolfo can). Spooner is better than Caron, why is he the one back in Providence? Other than that I'm looking forward to seeing how these lines work out. Paille-Bergeron-Seguin will be interesting, though I'd still like to see Seguin center at some point.

Sorry, that makes no sense at all right now.

Sure it does.

Krejci, Bergeron, Seguin up the middle is more likely to give you three scoring lines.

Paille - Bergeron - Marchand
Marchand - Krejci - Horton
Lucic - Seguin - Peverly

This lineup with Seguin in the middle makes sense to me.

Those lines look ok, but you've cloned Marchand. Wish we could......

I'm with you, but until Soderberg or Iginla are here, moving Seguin to center doesn't seem to be an option.

Of course Iginla might mean one of those players won't be here as well.
