This is a player I really liked, I thought he was becoming one of the better bottom 6 wingers in the league, but he currently only has 1 point in 20 games. What's going on with him?

Seems like he has height and big body, but he loses a lot of board battles and seems to be knocked off the puck or stripped of it pretty easily... hard to pinpoint.

Rooting for the guy but he hasn't looked strong this year.

He did have alot going for him in NCAA/junior and the AHL. He had the skill, the size and the smarts to be a bottom 6 player. Its tough to see how it all stalled

Its actually extremely ironic comparing him and Mark Janowski. Both have been somewhat linked since being drafted in 2012 (Jankowski picked ahead of rankings, JJ a faller to the 3rd round). Both had similiar styles and decently similar paths to the NHL. When either was excelling, so was the other one. Even last year, both looked promising. However this year, inexplicably, both have fallen off. Its just weird to have watched them the past 7 years and see how closely theyve performed each year

He is a hard player to pin down. A couple years ago he seemed primed to solidify his spot on the team. His upside seemed to be a solid 3rd line guy who is physical, fills in on the pk, gets 10-15 goals, and can control the puck on the cycle.

He has had some good games this year showing glimpses of what we all saw. He will have these really good shifts out of nowhere that gives me hope he can turn it around. His stick handling is average but he can actually handle the puck pretty well in tight places which is funny to watch because it’s unexpected. If he was available and I was another team I would take a chance on him at the very least.

It's strange. He used to show flashes of skill semi-regularly. He was usually good for one or two passes coming out of the cycle that were surprisingly impressive.

He's been pretty bad going back to the beginning of last season. PKs well, but basically no impact anywhere else.

He got hurt last year and ever since he hasn't been the same. He skated well for a big guy and has a good shot. His drawbacks are he's not much of a playmaker and seems a little hesitant to use his size right now. His mobility has also taken a hit and can't generate much offense unless he's with skilled players. He was so good for us two years ago.

Frankly the only reason he's even in the lineup right now is the PK, where he's excellent. Might carve out a career as a defensive specialist, but there's very little upside at the moment.

I like Khaira and I think he is better offensively then what he is producing. The truth is the Oilers bottom 6 for the last number of years has struggled to score any goals. He has also played a lot of the season with Sheahan and Archibald and neither of them have 1 point yet this season. Ryan Strome is a good example of a player who played on the Oilers bottom 6 and although he played well, he had no offensive numbers to show for it. I am not saying he is as good as Ryan Strome offensively, but there is not a lot of support on the bottom 6 currently to consistently produce much offense for the Oilers. Part of the reason the team has been bad for a number of seasons.

His offense hasn't developed but he's still a solid grinder. Is outstanding on the boards and is great on the cycle. He and Sheahan have seen a fair amount of ice against elites this season as Tippett has felt comfortable with their ability to pin lines in their own end for entire shifts.

He's a 4th liner dressed up as a 3rd. Lots of those around the league. Seems like he's good on the boards and the cycle but looks allergic to going to the slot or the net.

And the Raptors just won a championship. That can only be good for drawing more fans to basketball and away from hockey.

He’s a solid unspectacular depth guy who flashed some relatively decent skill but hasn’t panned out on that front. That’s it

He's a good PKer and good at cycling the puck on a 3rd or 4th line. He's also a half-decent fighter. He's shown glimpses of being more than that (particularly when paired with Nugent-Hopkins), but those glimpses are few and far between.

I think the other thing is, is since that stretch with McLellan where he scored like 5 points in 5 games, he stopped being as physical as he used to. McLellan told him he had the skill to be a skill player.

He doesn't take the body or get near as chippy as he used to, which is too bad, because I think he's at his best when he is throwing his weight around and really physically engaged.

He's one of the Oilers bottom 6 who are keeping the PK elite and neutralizing the opposition. Great along the boards. Offense went into a black hole. Never seemed the same after he got his concussion though. JMO. He is not a hindrance, but we need some of these guys to put up some points.

I thought Canadian South Asians loved hockey. WHy haven't they been able to produce NHL level talent?

It seems like they do.

It's just that they only make up 4% of the Canadian population, and I would wager about half of that number is first generation immigrants.

I think it takes time to get the hockey culture established enough to the point that Indian parents are putting their kids in elite hockey programs from a young age.

PS. Khaira has never had any offence to his game going back to college/juniors.

Coaches just like him.
