He was the most intriguing UFA signing. Has played great. Good signing.

Not sure why people are drive-bying Sheahan in Archibald’s signing thread... they both have their place in the line up, are very different players.

Like the signing, he’s an ideal bottom 6 winger for this team that can play up when we need him to.

Would welcome Sheahan at a similar cost, to be honest. What does lowballing him by 300k do for our salary cap? Nothing. It does nothing.

One of these players is a third line winger who can and probably should score between 10-15 goals every year. He's quick, he can play up the roster. He's a good find.

The other is a dime a dozen 4th line centre who isn't actually that good at faceoffs, nor is he that special defensively, but because he's now associated with Archibald - is a risk to sign an inflated deal.

A smart GM signs this deal for Archibald and then low-balls Sheahan. You can replace everything he does for less a million dollars every year in free agency. That's why he was there to sign in September.

Totally agree. I like Sheahan he’s a good soldier but there will be a dozen guys this summer that They could get for 1M or less and Tippett could turn into next years Sheahan. Now him and Arch have shown some chemistry and that’s worth something but if I was GM I’d offer 2 x 1M he gets the extra year but it’s still a contract you can bury at basically no hit if you need to.

Archibald feels like a fourth line version of Todd Marchant.

so I like this signing a lot. Cheap guy who you don’t mind up on any line for a small stretch.

good deal I think

has great wheels, hits, and some good hands for a bottom 6 forward

Bottom 6?

that is an even phase reference.

Archibald and Sheahan were 2 of the 3 UFA fwds I wanted.

Archibald RW at even:
(top 6 fwd - 62 per Position)
18-19 59gm 12 evg #50RW = Eberle, Hornquist, Simmonds, Brown
19 -20 60gm 10 evg #42 RW = Marner, Mantha, Fast

Last 2 season
Kassian 29 evg #26 RW (top 3 fwd) 3.2M
Eberle 23 evg #42 RW 5.5M
Archibald 22 evg #46 RW 1.5M
So top 6 fwd at evg.

per cap friendly.
RW cap hit rank.
#26 RW 5.5M cap
#42 RW 4.85M cap
#46 RW 4.6M
1.5M #83 RW

pk:
Per (Analytic Calculator) Nat Stat Trick
18-19
66 pk min (170 pk fwds)
6.51 pkga/60 median ( middle)
#36 PK fwd 5.51 pkga/60

19-20
(50 pK min fwds) (170 PK fwds)
6.70 pkga/60 is median ( middle)
#32 PK fwd 4.72 PKGA/60

top 6 fwd evg RW
Top 40 PK fwd for 1.5M @ 2

Insane cap savings for top 6 EVg RW and top 40 PK fwd.

Marchant was a bit better offensively, and anticipated breaks better but Archie is more physical. Good signing. This has been a solid player for us. I liked this signing from the start. Good to get him resigned.

Sheahan:
18-19 322 capture 14 fwds per team (216 C)
82gm 8 evg, 1SHG 15th hardest ZS 33.96% of 216 C

19-20 322 evn min 14 fwd ( 229 C)
64gm 7evg, 1shg, 9 th hardest 27.54% of 229C

looking at my groups of averages based on team, competing, ZS.
My 07-08 theory 3D player situation graph.
tough ZS C are expected to have brutal +/- if they are defending against tough comp as low as -26 to 31 dependiing on teamates.

he should be -21 right now based expected situation average.
Taking brutal ZS so top 6 can get soft ZS and 7-9 fwd can get average
This is MO of some teams.
Sure looks like Holland’s approach.

as for finding C with bottom 15 ZS last 2 seasons.
beagle 3 M
Gaksa 2.2M
Sheahan UFA next yr.
Richardson UFA next yr.

Saying he is easy to find?
2 of 229C
Ouch!

Sheahan and Richardson are who we should try to snag for next yr.
D ZS eaters.

situation usage to free up the horses without taking the expected -26 to -31 kicking.

Anticipated breaks better is an excellent statement about Marchant. If Archie could do that he’d be Joe Sakic

I would take Sheahan/Archie on my 3rd line for the next two years. They are the perfect duo to bring new players and young guys in with. I really liked them with Benson.
I love both guys but they are not ideal third line guys. Sheahan is a good player but you can see now how much the third line minutes have taken a toll on him. Prime PK/4th line minutes is ideal for Sheahan. Archibald can play up on a third line, but I think he is best suited to a 4th line.

Still think we get a 3c in the summer and keep Sheahan on the 4th line

I think ideally both Sheahan and Archibald are on the 4th line or at least a 3B line that splits bottom six minutes with someone like Benson/AA, Chiasson and a new center on the other.
