No shit, Sherlock.
This is such an annoying take. I like Connor as much as anyone else and obviously acknowledge that the Oilers wouldn’t be in the playoffs without him.
Does that absolve him from playing like shit in the playoffs generally to this point in his career? No. Does it make the fact that as the captain he panicked and was a major factor in throwing the game better? No.
As much as everyone is all over the “depth” in this game, it wasn’t the depth lines getting absolutely smoked for the last 20 minutes of the game to the point that they couldn’t even get possession of the puck most points. That was the top line with our top players on it.
It isn’t a comfortable conversation, but Connor has been ass the entirety of the series. Leon has elevated, Connor hasn’t. Teams appear to have a template to stop him (trap, collapse to the net, get bodies on him) that he apparently isn’t capable of playing through. Leafs, Habs and now Jets have all played this way this season and each time he can’t fight through it. He will need to figure this out to get anywhere in the playoffs in his career, because it’s obvious teams have him figured out and it’s obvious that he has no answer for it.
