How will he fit in? Generally he hasnt play more then 40games or so in a season.

Do you see him playing more in Buffalo or a guy who'll again miss alot of games for the press box(only use him for certain matchups)

Lot of competition on your blueline:

DEFENSE

33 T.J. Brennan
10 Christian Ehrhoff
4 Joe Finley
3 Jordan Leopold
81 Brayden McNabb
57 Tyler Myers
-- Adam Pardy
24 Robyn Regehr
-- John Scott
44 Andrej Sekera
52 Alexander Sulzer
6 Mike Weber

Locks:

Myers
Ehrhoff
Regehr
Leopold
Sekera

Fighting for the #6-spot:

Sulzer
Weber
Pardy (will probably get sent down to the AHL though)

In the AHL:

McNabb
Brennan

That leaves Scott as either the #8 D who will spent almost every game in the press-box, or as a sparingly used 4th line Forward who is used in match-ups against tougher opponents.

Bolded is what he will be. Probably will fill in when Kaleta is inevitably injured and play 4-5 minutes while a better forward gets double shifted to cover the other minutes the 4th line plays (Stafford or Tropp maybe). There's no way he sees time playing D unless we get to that point in injuries where our options are either putting him in or calling up Finley. Sulzer, McNabb, Pardy, Brennan, and Pysyk are all better depth options than he is.

He belongs in the AHL

So does the head coach, but he's been here 15 years and doesn't appear to be leaving anytime soon, so that's doesn't mean much.

Scott is only on a 1 year deal, and this year is pretty shot, so he's not going to play in Buffalo at all. Even if there is a shortened season, the games are going to be too important to dress him.

The guy is signed to beat up Lucic, and anyone who tries to stop him from doing so. If there is no season I guess Ruff will have to send him to the Lucic residens to get it done.

On a side note: I was playing some NHL 13 at home, and in a game against Phoenix John Scott scored my first goal, and then assisted Steve Ott (second assist from Kaleta) with a behind-the-back pass to my second. NOW DO YOU BELIEVE!?

I didn't think of this, but very much agree. This season is going to be very much a sprint. It will benefit younger, faster skaters.

The reason he was brought in doesn't go away with a shortened season. If anything the likely grind of that shortened season may see him dress more.

Yeah, the fact that games will be occurring more often with less rest would see him play more than I'd like.

However, I'd like to see them pick up literally anyone else to step in. I don't see the point in a guy who literally only fights and can do nothing else. Kaleta is more of a pest and can hit people and what not, Scott's slow and unskilled and is literally only useful for fighting which Kaleta can do well enough.

I'm not advocating for playing Scott, but he and Kaleta are in a completely different class of fighter. Lucic would smoke Kaleta, there's just too much of a size difference.

I agree with that but Kaleta WILL fight Chara, and essentially that's all you need to do. Kaleta even if he loses will show boat enough to get his team and the crowd fired up, the actual result of the fight doesn't actually matter that much.

Kaleta would be absolutely annihilated by Chara.

Scott is a specialist who is very good at his specialty. This isn't Andrew Peters post Andro who didn't really engage when he did agree to fight. This is a huge man that will win the overwhelming majority of his fights. THAT will do much more to swing momentum than watching Kaleta get broken in half by Chara.

It also takes away the job of handling the Thorntons and Prusts of the division from a beat up McCormick and our smaller fighters (Ott and Kaleta).

Really? You think a goon's ice time increases the more important the games? So like in the playoffs when a team plays really important games every other day, goons will be playing more? I've been a pretty diehard fan for 20 plus years, I've never seen this happen. Ever.

Where did I say he would get more ice time? More guys will be injured in a compressed season so its more likely he will dress.

Also a 48 game season IS NOT the playoffs. Not even close.

I agree totally.

Like 1994-1995, this season is going to be a sprint-----> “You can’t afford losses, you can’t afford to go into a losing streak,” Craig Muni said. “You don’t have that many games to recover (to make) the playoffs. (Olean Times Herald).

Don't forget TJ Brennen needs to clear waivers first so that poses another problem. I don't know where John Scott is gonna fit into this lineup.

How do you come by this conclusion?

Seems reasonable to expect more (prorated) injuries in a compressed season. First, many guys will not be in as good of shape as they're used to, which will lead to injuries. Second, less rest between games absolutely does lead to an increase in risk.

Games every other day plus I think everyone is expecting a "playoff type" effort level every night. Guys get beat up doing that night in night out. Kaleta at full speed lasts about 10 games before he's hurt and Tropp is already out long term.

"He deserves the press box!"
"Deserves it! I daresay he does. Many that play deserve to sit. And some that sit deserve ice. Can you give it to them? Then do not be too eager to deal out ice time in judgement. For even the very wise cannot see all ends. I have not much hope that John Scott can be useful before he gets released, but there is a chance of it. And he is bound up with the fate of the Cup. My heart tells me that he has some part to play yet, for good or Ill, before the end; and when that comes, the pity of Regier may rule the fate of many - yours not least."

I think some people may be forgetting that the other teams in our division and conference all added muscle and this was Darcy's reaction to that. He will get as someone else mentioned I believe four, five minutes until it is shown he just can't play. Or maybe the refs are in crackdown mode and he isn't needed.
Otherwise he was brought in here to prevent the Lukic crap from happening again and to back up the addition of Ott who along with Kaleta is likely to get some teams riled up. Hopefully :handclap:
