In the end, JS had almost 300 games in the NHL, a hell of a lot more than many of the players who played his role (or any other really). While by no means a great (or even very good) player, he wasn't a horrible one either. Throw in the ASG fiasco of last year (that he came out of smelling like a rose) & he had a pretty good career all in all.

Enjoy your retirement/the rest of your life John. Hopefully we'll see/hear him behind a mike somewhere down the line as I think he'd make an awesome color man in a broadcast team.

Awesome story behind him and the All Star game.

Think he was an impact NHL player to bring into a NHL team line up periodically through a season or post season and if not for the fiasco surrounding the All Star game would probably still be seeing NHL time here and there.

Hate to see someone basically run out of town for no good reason. Fans that voted for him in the All Star game should feel very very bad as well as the NHL personnel involved.

Best of luck to him.

He was actually a decently skilled player when he managed to get in the play. Just couldn't skate worth a damn.

Best of luck in the next stage of his life.

while i wish him nothing but the best and hope to hear him on color in not to long

i can not help but wonder if the ******-baggery of last season had not happened behind the scenes

if he might still be in the league

the sad reality is that people think goons in the NHL have zero hockey skill. People assume they just fought their was to the show. the reality is any NHL "goon" has significantly more hockey skill than 99.99% of the planet.

He's a great guy, and really well-liked around the NHL from what I've seen and heard. I'm really happy that the BS of last year turned into a real feel-good story for him. I fully expect him to turn around and end up on TV for a broadcast team somewhere, or on a panel of some kind during the PO's etc. Although he does have a nice engineering degree he can apply to the rest of his life, so he's got some options.

He should be proud of what he's done, and as others have said, he was a pretty good 4th liner for a lot of years, not to mention one bad ass fighter.

Wish him the best of luck moving forward! Enjoy the retirement!

Why do people suck this guys **** like he's owed respect or something?

-11 points in just under 300 games played
-Never a plus player at any pro level
-he was a predator for large part of his career and injured actual hockey players

he was probably the worst hockey player of his generation

He lasted 15 years as a pro 9 in the NHL. that has to be in the top 5 % of players for longevity. So many play a couple of years or less.

Glad he made the Allstar game.

The meme went so far that people sincerely think he's a Great Guy now despite him being a dirty plug his entire career.

He's an under appreciated player and this post proves it. He did have some skills and he was very smart.

Sharks fans have been saying this since well before he was even considered for the ASG. This isn't some revisionist ********.

he was probably the worst hockey player of his generation

he wasn't even the worst player on the Sharks two seasons ago...

There couldn't be more wrong with this post. With the exception of his points, every point you made is incorrect.
