To me, it's kinda unclear. If the Jets hold onto his contract into the offseason, will his contract start to count until Buff decides not to show up in September and we do that dance again? The league office told the Jets recently that Buff's contract would not impact the Jets this year (which allowed the Jets to make some moves) but such clemency may not necessarily extend into next season.
Maybe we are forced to make a decision before the new league year starts. At any rate, I think we have a few months to decide without consequences.
