oiler fan here. Is there any way a schultz for buff trade can make sense.

Schultz regressed this year but it was in large part due to playing with a rookie and an over the hill guy (Ference). When paired with Petry, he was successful. He played big minutes, more than he should. His 5/5 production was good but his pp production was down. That may be due to Eakins' terrible pp.

What he needs is a veteran partner and a 2nd pairing role, something the Jets can provide. In that circumstance, he can succeed.

The oilers are going to get bigger and tougher as per our new GM and Buff is a logical target. Schutlz does not fit that mold and I think he will be dealt. IMO, the Jets give him a very good chance to become a decent player.

Is he a LD or a RD. We wouldn't have a spot for him at RD in the top 4. He could possibly fit the LD spot but likely would be a pp specialist bottom pairing guy more than likely.

In terms of value, the Oilers would have to add a ton to Schultz to have a shot at Buff.

In any case, I just don't see Schultz fitting into the Jets' roster.

Well ... lets see. Maybe if you threw in a top 6 player, we could maybe make this work:shakehead

Schultz is an expensive reclamation project.

Oilers' best shot is PIT 1st+Marincin+stuff and hope their offer ends up on top.

Absolutely 0 interest in Schultz. Maybe less than 0.

He'd be an overpaid third pair D man on the Jets who's terrible defensively.

No interest whatsoever. He plays the wrong side. That's all she wrote.

Tend to agree. That and he seemed to be shooting from anywhere & everywhere this year. Still want him back badly though, bad shooting and all.

Definitely. Didn't mean it as a criticism of Frolik at all. Just see a lot of similarity between him and what Burmi can become. Quite frankly, I think Burmi has a lot of upside.

I'd prefer Klefbom in a trade for Buff. Hes a shutdown dman we could groom to replace Enstrom on the Left side. Though I doubt EDM makes that trade.

A Klefbom-Kostalek bottom pairing in a few years would be nice.

As for Schultz, him and Ference single-handedly lost Edmonton games every time we played them. No thanks.

You wouldn't want him on either side. Jultz might be the worst defenseman in the league (for a guy who plays every night).

Nobody played well under Eakins. I give the Oilers players a do-over. Schultz had potential and is young enough he might not have been ruined. I wouldn't give up anything to get him though. The Oil will have to do their own dirty work with him.

On the oilers forum a guy made a trade proposal of;
Marincin + Schultz + EDM 2015 2nd(33rd overall) + Conditional 2016 1st if Buff resigns in Edmonton, or the 1st if we extend him before a trade.

I think that is a trade I would do in a heartbeat. Adds a lot of futures on defence and whatever else we want to draft with the two picks provided that Buff doesn't veto a trade to Edmonton.

That 2016 1st could be pretty high, I wouldn't hesitate taking that trade.

That is if Buff wants to theoretically stay in Edmonton. How powerful is the McDavid effect?

Hard to imagine that Edmonton isn't on his 5 team no trade list. Very hard to believe.

Slip him a little $$$ under the table to take it off the list? I wonder how much it would take? ;)

More seriously could the recent management changes plus McD lead to a change on that list?

I think the McD effect coupled with the fact that he will be the #1 guy in Edmonton and be utilized in virtually all situations and may even be seen as a leader there may make him think about it at least. He can become Chiarellis "New Chara" but meaner.
