massively lacking foot-speed. Will probably limit him his entire career barring some major turnaround in the skating department. Absolutely no quickness or urgency in his game.

He has the skill, he has the IQ, he just can't execute anything at a high tempo.

And now he'll go in a 7 game slump and this thread will be bombarded with the opposite take.

Just let it be. He's been playing well, but still has areas to improve on. If he can be a 50 point C, who's good defensively, it's fine for what he's paid. If not, then his contract will be fine in the future as the cap raises.
Yep.

streaky as hell. This will be bumped in a couple months when he has a 14pts in 16gp stretch and then everyone will laugh at habs fans quickly followed by 4pts in his 20 after that and people will laugh at the contract. That’s the player he has been.

Exactly. It’s been years, he’s going on 24. We know who he is. The streaks are part of it and always have been.

You mean when he was leading the Canes in scoring through the first month of the season, he wasn't playing like a 1C?

Once he returns to full health, this will again be a fun thread to bump. BTW Gaudreau has 14 points in his last 14 games, and is again leading the Jackets in scoring.
He may be injured, no idea why they would keep an injured guy in the lineup for 10 minutes a night contribution. Sounds a pretty incompetent way to run a team,

My critique of him is his skill set, which doesn't including NHL level skating. So ya, he will get hot again and go on a run like he does a couple times every season. But overall, since the Canes acquired him, he hasn't been a guy that your coach has enough confidence in to play up the lineup consistently save for case of injuries. 350 games in, he just isn't much of a factor.

Terrible pick by MTL and brutal misread by CAR, they could have kept twice the player in Trochek, and the first and 3rd, cap difference would have been 700k. But hey, when Trochek is in his last year KK might be slightly better so there is that.

I think the pick probably wasn't that bad considering the draft wasn't an easy one to select in at the top and he had 34pts as a young 18 years old.

KK just wouldn't listen to management and never improved his skating/balance.

The draft is always a gamble. I think the gamble was good, but it didn't pay off and some of that responsibility has to be on the ayer as well. Of course if that happens to often (like the Habs), then management his most.likely to blame as well!

He's pretty much the same he was at 18, maybe he's better, but his skating is preventing him from executing or using his attributes like he could.

Lol, no he wouldn’t. He’s playing for a talented team. Montreal is a black hole for offensive talent. He’d have 5 points if he was still with the team.

The last 80pts+ forward was freakin’ Kovalev in 2008. Before that you have to go back to Damphousse in the late 90s. You can probably count the number of 70pts scorers in the last 20 years on one hand.

There's no way you can say that in confidence. In your opinion he wouldn't be, have you watched him? Because he would be in your top 6 AKA one of your best players. I know you don't like to hear it and I'm not a Habs hater but that's got to sting. You're talking about a potential PPG forward.

What? Suzuki or Caulfield wouldn't play with him? He'd get his points in the top6.

Be mad at Bergevin not random HF posters.

I think the logical fallacy that Kotkaniemi wouldn’t have close to the same amount of points on the Habs is hilarious. He’s the one playdriving his line and finishing chances. It does take some skill you know?

Well, those takes didn’t age particularly well, did they? I hope those who laughed at my post hang their heads in shame.

3 pts in his last 23 gp.

Is there a chance he gets under 30 pts this year? Or will he swing a hot streak? For those watching, is the play good or is he completely invisible?
He’s not bad, he plays well two ways and drives the net a bit. No confidence. He had started shooting a little quicker and now he’s hesitating again. He could use a little luck burying a rebound around the net. When he doesn’t play with someone like Necas it gets a lot harder for him as he doesn’t create a lot of offense by himself and our style of play does not cater to offense in general.

He’s just a Rod the Bod kinda guy, through and through

*loses leverage, falls*
That doesn’t check out. KK is a different skater than he was in Montreal. That’s the one thing I would defend him on. Despite me standing up for him here I’ve been back and forth on the whole thing as a Canes fan. KK couldn’t handle any contact in any situation without falling down. He’s much stronger on his skates, this isnt happening anymore. He’s not very fast but he’s strong.

He's just not a very good player. His scoring was up earlier because he was getting opportunities he had not earned. If he receives the 7-8min of ice time per game that he deserves, he probably scores 10 points in a season.

I disagree with this. I think he is in a major slump but is a legit bottom 6, 35 point forward that can play a heavy game and get streaky. Shitty #3 OA, poorly played by CAR, and I thought the way he left MTL was lame, but a decent forward. I actually think in Montreal's system he would be doing pretty well, suspect MSL would have him playing more the 12 a night.

It's aged fine. He's a young player on a cold streak then the Habs trolls come licking their chops and laughing at people's posts for what's still a valid opinion--- the moment he starts to struggle a bit.

A few game stretch doesn't define a career. Pretty pathetic and Habs are my 2nd team.

You're not the first Habs fans who tried to sh** on me for that petty 'I'm right, your wrong" BS.
Laugh away, but know you have no f**king life

No, it absolutely didn't.

Does this sound like it aged fine to you?

It's his 6th year in the league and he'll be lucky to hit 30pts at this rate. What are the odds that he ever becomes a PPG player?

Really? Never seen you on the Habs boards.

To be fair, that’s exactly what you were looking for when you bumped a bunch of people’s posts to do a victory lap over something this petty.

Petty? A Canes fan calling a Habs fan petty is pretty funny. The vast majority of Habs fans don't give a smeg about Kotakaniemi anymore because we're too taken with our new "hotnesses." Petty? Like Tom Dundon? Dude 99.99% of MTL fans have moved on. But after everything that was said and done I think we're at least allowed to do a bit of snickering.

*snicker*

C’mon, man. You made a deliberate effort to drag up those old posts.
Ah, yes, "effort" to quote two posts after the thread was bumped.
If you’re gonna do something as lame as that, at least own it. It’s worse to deny it.
Nah, didn't even remember them. Last time I bumped this thread myself and it wasn't to dunk on anyone but to ask what was going on because after a hot start and giving me tons of points in my pool, Kotkaniemi went ice cold, and I was wondering if I should drop him. Then, it was bumped again and I scrolled past these posts.

I also find it ironic you ain't calling out your buddies but one guy quoting two posts gets you to respond.

Yeah that’s super weird that you keep showing up to rub it in whenever he has a cold streak. Must be a strange habit to live with.

When you post the following:

It’s obvious that you’re trying to piss people off.

That’s a bad enough look, but denying it just makes it worse. If you’re gonna be about it, be about it. It’s the difference between a Marchand and a Binnington.

I don't. If you call quoting two posts rubbing it in "whenever he has a cold streak" then I don't know what to tell you.

It's not a bad look and I couldn't care less about your thoughts on the matter. You guys are getting your panties in a twist over a few posts. Quit crying.
