Jeff Skinner appears to be on the block, considering it's his last year before FA. A good, not great player with potential to be a staple top 6 winger for a team if he's able to stay healthy.

“We have him for another year and that’s the way it remains,” Waddell said. “Jeff’s been a great player for our franchise. Certainly if there’s another fit someplace that makes sense for all of us we might explore it, but if not we know he’ll be a part of this group going forward.”

Got to think a team like Montreal or Toronto would be interested. Montreal obviously needs to acquire top 6 forwards, and Toronto needs to replace JVR's and Bozak's production potentially.

Thoughts on where he could be headed and what it would take?
Habs would have no interest in Skinner. The Have Patches and are in need of a C. The last thing they need is Skinner

A contender is the best place for him, but I bet he'll get traded after the Tavares sweepstakes are over.

Right now I say he ends up in either Edmonton or Pittsburgh.

If Skinner is moved, and it's before the start of the season, I think Carolina wants a forward (prefer center) back, lesser player, cheaper, signed to longer term, around the same age as Jeff. Preseason, I think a futures deal would have to blow their socks off.

Otherwise, keep him, then if you're competing for a berth at the deadline, great! if not, collect the late 1st + or the 2nd + decent prospect.

it could also be a culture move, in which case you will see a futures deal.

Both Bob McKenzie and Elliotte Friedman have named the Kings as being a team that is interested in Jeff Skinner (among other clubs). The Kings certainly could use the scoring help, but they likely won't be looking to part with any of their top prospects.

I could see something around Toffoli or Pearson working.

Yea, but can you imagine how many ESG he'd pot with an elite center?

Not sure he’s the type to benefit.

His edgework, creativity and strength are what make him what he is.

Hockey IQ and puck support required to benefit from having a center who creates most of the plays, I’m not sure that’s his strong suit.

But hey if they sell low on him, I’d be down to see if I’m wrong and have him flank Sid and Guentzel.

Why would we sell low on him?

Pacioretty definitely seems to have a long and bright future ahead of him in Montreal.

I can see why you’d have no interest in Skinner.

We don't need wingers, much less spending assets to acquire quality ones.

As it stands we should be looking to move Pacioretty, and even so we'd still have plenty of players to occupy our top 9 wingers spots.

And we'll probably end up with another quality winger at 3rd overall in the draft.

Not saying Skinner isn't an interesting target, but Montréal just isn't the best fit right now, moreso given the direction the team seems to be taking.

Why would we sell low on him?

If you’re trading him this summer after a down season and one year left on his deal, I’m not seeing a ton coming back.

You should keep him and hold out your assets for a high end center.

Getting Skinner to replace Patches is a lateral move at best and we would have to give assets up to do so. We may as well just keep Patches and keep our assets.Doesn't take a genius to figure that out.

Chaotic will hate it, the Aho's will hate it but I think it's close.

10th ov + Puljujarvi + Sekera

Skinner + Faulk + Rask

RNH - McDavid - Rattie
Skinner - Draisaitl - Yamamoto
Lucic - Rask - Kharia
Benson - Strome - Kassian

Nurse - Larsson
Klefbom - Faulk
Russell - Bear

Move Benning for a winger on an entry level contract or prospect.

To the Stars for Spezza, a young winger and (or) a draft pick? Just spitballing here...

If Carolina sucks next year, they could trade Spezza as a rental for additional assets. If they're good, they could extend Spezza for a few more years.
