Are you happy he won’t break the record? Or do you believe “records are meant to be broken” and would have enjoyed seeing him make history?

I am happy because I’m just not a big Jagr “fan” myself so I am happy that Gordie will continue to hold the record.

Not a big Jagr fan either. He got on my nerves his last couple years as a Penguin, but I don't hold any ill will towards him.

Would have been cool to see him hit 2k, as I believe only Gretzky ever broke that barrier.

I think he had something like 17 NHL seasons in a row with 30+ goals. Pretty amazing when you think about it.

Apparently in the off-season it was between STL and CAL on where Jager was going. He chose CAL. So glad he didn't chose STL!!! I never wanted him but many Blues fans did.

No one cares
Jagr was a great player for so many years and his years in the KHL are really what affected his NHL stats. Did I read somewhere that he initially went over there because of money/debt problems?

Somewhat crazy one I noticed the other day was that if Marleau stays healthy he'll pass Jagr in games played by the time his contract ends in T.O. I think he's got about a half dozen games leeway.

Wild to think that Howe retired for a few years - then went to the WHA for another six seasons where he was still one of the best players out there - and still despite losing a decade of NHL games, still holds the all-time lead.

It's sad on some level I suppose, but at the same time we're talking about keeping Gordie Howe at the top of a major record. That's not a bad thing.

Likewise I'm not really sure why I would want to see anyone pass Howe or Gretzky for goals or points. The occasion would be interesting, but it would be a bit like having Hank Aaron pass Babe Ruth for the home run record, or Emmitt Smith passing Walter Payton for the NFL rushing record, or if Karl Malone had managed to get up to #1 in the NBA scoring list. Nothing wrong with Aaron or Smith or Malone or Jagr, but they're just not the same kind of cultural icon.

It’s a shame that he won’t get surpass Gordie Howe. But even if wasn’t waived he never would have reached the mark anyway. His constant play 3 games and then get injured thing was going to hold him back from the record. If only he trained a little harder in the summer instead of rushing to start the season.

Of course I wanted Jagr to break a little bit of that NA roh rah

Can't blame the guy for wanting to make money though, like every other player in the league. I wonder how much that milestone would have meant to him anyway.

Jagr is my all time favorite player and the reason I got into hockey in the first place so yeah I'm bummed he won't get the record. I also like seeing old records broken generally, because I have no real connection to players that I didn't see play. I can respect them in a distant way but that's it.

If a player is good enough to pass the Great One in all time points, he will become a cultural icon. That is how unbelievable that record is.

Gordie deserves that record, he played with the same team for 24 years. As much as i admire Jagr it's been sad to see him as a journeyman the last few years. It sucks to see a legend like him basically get pushed out because no one wants him anymore.
