He's been relegated to PowerPlay specialist. He's too slow to engage in the 5 on 5 game, sit him in a scoring spot and he still has a decent shot... Let him control the puck and he can still protect it pretty well and win a few battles, but overall, he's just not an incredibly useful player anymore.
The guy led the LEAGUE in ES scoring per ice time 2 years ago.
PP specialist?
Can't handle 5on5 game?

He had a good runs of games, but he kept getting injured. It seemed after every injury, he was slower and slower. The Flames really don't have the roster space for him. It wouldn't be fair to deny any of the kids playing time. It wouldn't be fair to vets either. Moving guys like Stajan, Brouwer, etc..to the AHL to make room for Jagr would effectively end their careers.
I'm sure Flames fans would be heartbroken.

Jagr was a great player for so many years and his years in the KHL are really what affected his NHL stats. Did I read somewhere that he initially went over there because of money/debt problems?

NO. You did not read that, because its not true.

It's his own fault that he won't hit the all times game record, so I honestly don't care. He went to the KHL for money, so meh.

Wrong again. Edmonton offered more money. Jagr had promised to return to Omsk in russia and play there again after playing there during the lockout 2005-06. Thats what Jagr has said and how it was.

Would of liked to see him get it and have more success with the Flames. It's not like he was bad in the games he got in. Just slow.

What a weird way to end a HoF career if this is truly the end for JJ. Waived by the Calgary Flames. Wish him well and hope he sticks around in the hockey scene.

Thank you for pointing that out.

Jagr was also 4th in the league in even strength assists during the 2016-2017 season.

If the NHL removed the PP entirely Jagr would be a lot closer to the top scorers.

Jagrs strength since coming back from the KHL is CYCLING around the boards and setting up his linemates.

Anyone watching hockey knows cycling is not a major deal of power plays.
---
I have no idea why people come to these Jagr threads and post false/incorrect things to portay Jagr in a bad light.

Are these people bitter about something Jagr did 15-20 years ago still? They are not aware about Jagrs stats, they have obviously not watched him closely.

And yet they feel the need to come and post stuff that is not true?
---
And worst of all, the Flames put him on the 4th line WITHOUT PP time during his last 5-10 games. Jagr, a PP specialist that has no PP ice time, epic fail.

In Jagrs first 8 games he had 1 goal and 3 assists. Keep in mind the first games for Jagr was like his pre-season, he had not played a game since april 2017.

He had no chemistry with his linemates in Calgary. He had switched weather from +25 in Florida to -25 in Calgary.

Jagr started to look like himself during game 4 to 8. Then he hurt his groin 3 or 4 times and came back too quick each time.

He was demoted to the 4th line and playing with utter scrubs and with 11-12 minutes icetime. And no PP ice time anymore.

What would happen to Ovechkins production if he was demoted to 4th line, playing 11-12 minutes with scrubs and no PP time? It would be interesting to see.

Also, remember Jagr played on Floridas 1st line and then on the Flames got handled 3rd line duty with a rookie and Bennett, so that also contributed to his decline in scoring. That line started to click though with cycling game before Jagr started to get hurt.

Jagr was then demoted to 4th line duty when he returned.
---
Summary: Jagr was not healthy enough for a long stretch to determine if he could still produce or not.

Also, Jagr never played himself out of a 1st line or 2nd line roll, thats important to remember, he never got that chance in Calgary because injuries mostly.

I am happy that Howe keeps his games played record, and happy that Gretzky will still have more assists than anyone else has points. All credit to Jagr for what he's done, but I like my icons holding down the fort in the record books.

Calgary ruins everything
At least we brought Mike Smith back from the abyss. Guy actually looks happy to play hockey now. At the end of the day, Jagr's groin couldn't hold up though. Love the guy, but he didn't train hard enough in the offseason to be ready for the start of the season.

He said he needed a month to be ready the day he signed, but if he was more pro-active, then he would've been ready for game 1.

I guess I should have clarified a bit more. Brouw was OK in the regular season (like you said 40pt player) but he just had another level in the playoffs that nobody saw coming. I am guessing that's why he got that huge contract.

Thanks for sharing your point of view!

Brouwer's best playoff run was 13 points in 20 games in 2015/16. Year before he had 3 point in 14 games. I know points don't tell the whole story, but Brouwer has 34 points in 102 playoff games, which is well below his pace of 333 points in 736 games. Brouwer really cashed in on that 2015/16 playoff run. As a result, he's probably overpaid by about 2 million, which is why Flames fans give him such a hard time. He's paid a like a player who can set up himself up in front of the net and handle business. He doesn't really do that. Plays seem to die on his stick.
