Not sure if it was in his rookie year but I remember a play in OT where Karlsson is chasing the puck in the offensive zone and Cowen decides to go in front of the net. Karlsson throws the puck in front of the net (from behind the net) and Cowen tips it in for the win. I remember thinking "was that our 2 defensmen around their net in OT 4 on 4?!"

You could see right from the start that cowen has good offense instincts. What was lacking lately is the confidence to make those plays happen. I'm glad to see he's getting some of that mojo back. We need him to be a top 4 D.

I guarantee that Cowen will hit at least 40 points in at least 1 year of his career.

25 defensemen did it last year. 18 in 11/12. 27 in 10/11.

You think that at some point in the future, Cowen can be better than a top 30 scoring D in the NHL? I don't. Especially given that quicker, smaller offensive specialists are being drafted more than ever.

It was in overtime VS Buffalo

He's backkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk (too soon?)

Seriously last game he was very good and tonight he was excellent. He made 2-3 terrific 1on1 plays which was most impressive for me. Against guys like Wheeler no less.

His best game in the past 2 seasons. I was sure he was going to get it done in OT too

Somehow, and even as a huge Cowen fan its quite surprising, he has turned his greatest weakness so far, i.e. his breakout pass, into his strength.

These past two games, everytime he has the puck its guaranteed to get out. Hes been making tons of nifty little chip passes and even skating the puck around much smaller and quicker forecheckers.

Hes essentially become Methot which is huge, since he has so much more room to grow than that imo. I think our top 4 is set for a good long time guys.

It's amazing what confidence and full health has done for him. Looks like the player we were expecting him to become when we drafted him. Looks like the guy we were comfortably penciling into the top 4 after the lockout ended.

His best game in 2 years, easily. Cautiously optimistic that he uses this as a turning point, and we can stop worrying so much about him. Not HOPELESSLY optimistic, mind you... it's an awfully small sample size when compared to the larger one we have been going off of lately, but Ill take as many performances like that one as I can get.

He looks great paired with Ceci. I think it's a much better fit than Karlsson since Ceci is good at slowing down the pace of play and making safe passes. It's exciting to think we may have found our second pairing.

Methot - Karlsson
Cowen - Ceci
Phillips - Gryba

IF Cowen can play at roughly the same level for the rest of the year as he did vs the Jets, and IF Phillips can keep up the quiet rebound year he's having, and IF Gryba continues his "gets better as the season goes on" mini-trend he's set for himself in his short career so far... then that actually, sort of, kind of, MAYBE looks like a blueline that could hold up in the playoffs and take pressure off the goalies from having to win us a series by themselves.

Phillips as the 7 to rotate in and out. Boro has been outstanding as well.

If Methot does not step up to the signature line on his contract, he will bring a solid 1st or Top 6 forward as a returm. Our D has looked fine without him based on 10 games.

Man some big time moods swings around here.

He was never as terrible as people claimed, and he's not as great as some people will project after another good stretch of games.

What he has done, is get back to basics and be more consistent, and it's coming at the right time.

Great game but i dont think it continues. Hope it does but i dont think it will

He'll have a few more stinkers this year. For sure. He's young and that's part of finding your way in the league.

But, it does look like he's turning the corner. More sure of himself and good in his own zone.

Only caveat I have, is the last two games have been very slow. Seems like both teams have been playing in mud lately (CTC ice screwed up or what?). It'll be interesting to see how he fares in some quicker games, like against a Pittsburgh or Montreal (on good ice, of course). That's going to be the real test for Cowen.

He's been a completely different player lately. Great to see, I really hope he keeps it up. Really impressed with all of our defencemen so far, there have been rough patches but they have played relatively well.

The one exception was that 4 on 4 last night where Karlsson was in the box. It looked to me like they were missing his ability to move the puck up out of the zone...but they did come around.

I noticed the exact same thing with Gryba last night. I wonder if Jason Smith is coaching them really closely on it.

Last two games from him were probably the best I've seen as a Senator. Really hope he can keep this up. Cowen playing anywhere close to his potential completely changes the landscape of our team.

That Gryba pasing was even replayed and commented by announcers. Gryba looked like 5 time Norris winner.

He took a lot of unfair heat for his play after coming back from major surgery. Glad he is quieting his biggest critics
