Wiz may have not been the greatest defensive defenseman on the team, but he was part of the fabric/chemistry which Jarmo significantly altered. Wiz, DMac, Letestu, Asinimov, Dano and Johansen were key components of a team which jelled. The near playoff miss of 2012-13, the playoff run of 2013-14, and the 15-1-1 closing team of last season had a certain identity and spirit. The current collection is an amorphous mixture which lacks verve and any identity whatsover.
Eliminating 6 key components of an equation which had led the franchise to its highest point and was trending upward was a risky venture. Jarmo came up snake eyes on his gamble. When the ownership looks at the season ticket base next season and if the team has its traditional slow start, Jarmo and the Broadcaster will likely pay the price for their failed reconfiguration of the CBJ.

While you're argument is well presented I don't completely agree.
Trading Dano & Anisimov for Saad was a good trade and at the time Artie was superfluous and Jarmo had no idea that petulant, pouty lazy Joey was going to return at the beginning of this season.
DMac & Letestu I agree with, especially Letestu.
Wiz I'm not so sure. He did provide offense but was a defensive liability. The return wasn't great but Karlsson has shown me enough to think that he will be a good addition. The added 2nd may have allowed for the trade to get Carlsson the results of which the jury is still out on.
You aren't going to be convinced but I think there are legitimate counter arguments to be made.
Keeping the skill/leadership of Dmac and/or Letestu would have been the wiser move. Those guys were part of the "verve" that you speak of. Wiz was too but his career is likely over soon, and Jarmo should be praised for getting out when he did. I don't think Joey was ever part of that foundation.
The physical core of the playoff team when the Jackets were the most heavy hitting team to play against, was built around 5 hitters who were at the top of the nhl hit stats. Jenner, Comeau, DMac, Dubinsky, Foligno. The three most important ones are still here. The others should have been kept, because they were cheap and effective.

The only issue I had with Wiz was how Richards played him. He should have been mostly a 5/6 PP specialist as time moved on. Karlsson is going to be a good role player for us; but for the short term that trade did hurt. He was worth the money we paid him.

I do like Karlsson (and obviously we'll see what Stenlund develops into). But I do miss Wiz and think he'd be a valued part of the team still.

We struggled for so long to get that shot from the point. We have had it once in history and it was with Wiz. I really miss the guy. Sad that he tore his acl.
He would be a welcome addition back to this defense considering the shambles it is in at current state.

I liked Wiz, but even just his one more year at $5.5 would have hurt us with our RFA extensions. Glad we don't have to worry about that.

The 4th overall pick #1C who finished 16th in the NHL in scoring and led the team in scoring by a huge margin the previous season wasn't part of the fabric? Just stop it

You might have some other kind of fabric in mind, but what made the team from the playoff year special was hard work and hard hitting. Johansen stood apart in both respects.

Dano is a bust at this point (unless you consider 1 goal in 13 games with chicago and 4 goals in 33 for Rockford something special) and he was overrated in his time with CBJ given his defensive shortcomings. DMac is a career 4th liner who only scored 5 goals last year for Florida after his 9 for Columbus. Letestu is a guy I wasn't high on during his time in Columbus, but Campbell has been a clear step down. Anisimov I genuinely miss as he was sorely underrated in Columbus. Johansen has 4 goals in 19 games with Nashville and isn't exactly on fire putting the puck in the net. He has 10 goals in 57 games. For a frame of reference, Duby has 13 goals in 52 games. Duby isn't exactly a scoring demon and he's outscoring Joey.
Wiz was fine, but overpaid. For 3 mil a year I would have been content. It was a good move.
And nothing about the last few seasons should be something this organization looks to as something we need to get back to. I'm sorry, but barely making the playoffs or having a good run to end the season means nothing. Continue to build the team the right way and make moves, like trading joey for jones, that strengthen the team for years to come.
