Jameis Winston the football equivalent of someone who has been given a dozen speeding tickets and is completely and utterly mind blown when he is pulled over again. He looks the officer dead in the eye and says "You're kidding me REALLY??" in disbelief when the cop says he was doing 87 mph in a 55. And then he just sits there staring at his 13th ticket with as much genuine surprise as his 9th (when he should've learned his lesson long ago) and all he has to say for himself is "When I'm not speeding I'm a safe driver. I've never even been in an accident!" (see: "Look at the stats. I'm ballin. If I learn how to cut down the turnovers I'm gonna be the best.") The most damning statistic of his career is one we will never see: there's been at least 20 other dropped INT's in his career no different than all the times a habitual speeding offender isn't pulled over. Christ 88 INT's is just what the defenders have actually caught. This doesn't even count the total instances of his mistakes.
Sean Payton is in for one rude damn awakening if he's hoping to unlock some sort of hidden potential in Winston that Smith, Koetter, Arians, Leftwich and Monken couldn't. Winston starts every season like he's the second coming of rookie year Vinny Testaverde. But then once November/December rolls around and the Bucs are so far out the playoff race it's impossible to catch up, he turns into the second coming of Brett Favre in his prime for the last 5 or 6 weeks of the season and puts up the most ridiculous damn numbers you've ever seen. And suddenly "ZOMG THE LIGHT IS COMING ON FOR HIMB!" and we finish 5-11. I was done with him the second I watched Ryan freaking Fitzpatrick come off the bench and throw to DeSean Jackson in perfect stride -something Winston couldn't figure out how to do in 2 years. He thusly responded to Fitz falling off a cliff like he always does and his suspension with 6 TD's (4 coming in the same game) and 10 INT's in his first 4 games back with us and promptly getting benched for Fitzpatrick again.
All said, the Saints better hope and pray Winston doesn't have to play in any more than like 3 games. He might even win them all and play tremendously. But he completely plateaued somewhere around his 2nd and 3rd season in terms of development and sharply regressed since. You ain't getting 16 weeks of Jameis at his best no matter how bad you wish for it.
