I don't think he's giving the leafs a compliment by calling them "blue collar".

So he's saying they're bad and that's why they've become "Canada's team"?

Every fanbase for some reason craves the moniker "Canada's team" when everyone knows one truly doesn't exist. Good ole Jacques, king of over the top hyperbole, is playing with the emotions of a near decade playoff drought. Leafs can become "Canada's team" no more than the Canucks did in their SCF appearance.

If Toronto is "positioned to become" anything it's a decently run franchise, something some other fanbases have taken for granted for some time.
