This is interesting that they gave him two years. he’s a good bottom 6/13 forward type fourth line guy but he definitely is an NHL player.

Just came by to ask, do you guys think Parise is retiring with Lou signing these depth guys? Haven't heard his decision at all yet, right?

Perhaps we are going to break up the 4th line? Martin and Clutterbuck trade fodder?

Honestly Parise had nothing left in the tank last quarter of the season. Great guy, hell of a motor, but Isles shouldn’t sign him if he doesn’t retire.

I think Paris’s gone, Ross sticks with the team more consistently, Gauthier takes Ross’ spot.

What's interesting about the Gauthier deal, it's a 1-way 2 yr contract. To me, that means Lou is planning on him being with the big club, no?

Definitely. He’s an NHLer. Ross will likely be waived and Parise is as good as gone.
Isles also have no issue paying a player NHL salary in the minors. This year it could be Otto, Salo, Cholowski and Gauthier all one one way deals down there potentially.

If he has a 1 way deal, he would have to be with the club or be exposed to be claimed, right?

Whether he has a 1-way or 2-way he needs waivers to go down to the A.

Only difference is if you have a 2-way deal you salary changes depending on what league you're in. For example one of the other guys signed has 775K salary if he's in the NHL but 300K if he's in the AHL. Gauthier get's the same salary up or down.

For a team like ours, because they're willing to have a high priced AHL team, it's not realistic to have any indications on players roles since the Isles have no problem paying Gauthier 800K to be in the AHL.

On smaller budget teams you can make the inference he'd be NHL bound.

Personally, I rather the isles go after Konceny from Philly instead of Debrincat
The issue is a DeBrincat package made so much sense because Ottawa is actually looking for the type of depth veteran pieces we have droves of. Philly will want strictly futures. It’s a shame it couldn’t work out, but childhood team yada yada yada.

It’s nearly impossible to move out the kind of money we need to move out while simultaneously improving the team to where it needs to be to contend. It sucks, but that’s where we’re at.
