Yes. They made a good decision in finally blowing it up and getting rid of their rotten core. But let's no pretend that the Leafs success is all the result of brilliant planning and superior scouting. They're top 3 players were gifted to the Leafs by lottery, were they not? Not to take anything away. Wish the Habs had decided to tank at the end of the year after they're historic collapse. They might have gotten lucky and gotten Laine. Instead they won a bunch of worthless games and drafted lower down.

I'm not saying they are already - I'm hoping they will when the Leafs are in full swing and actually a contender . No one takes a night off when Chicago comes around, or Pittsburgh, etc. I'm excited to be one of those teams, and it'll even be better with the fanbase hate .

Teams don't try super hard against Chicago or Pittsburgh either. They try the same as any other team
