Well he's gonna get it. He needs 11 assists in 14 games, which is below his career average and I believe below his average every single season except for his rookie.

The new goal for McDavid in my mind as a fan is looking at 110 assissts, that would push him past a couple of Gretzkys seasons, to a top 10 most assists season ever.
Only Gretzky, and Lemiuex (once) has hit the 110 assists mark.

Something thats going under the radar is that Kucherov has a shot of it aswell. He is pacing for 96 right now, certainly possible he could get 4 more than he is pacing for.
It wouldn't be outside of McDavids nature to throw up 30+ points in the last 14 games. 100 is almost a guarantee right now. 110 is very possible.

McDavid hit 91 assists today. This is the record for active players. It's also the most since Thornton hit 92 in 2007 and 96 in 2006.

This is the 26th most assists ever in a season behind Gretzky x12 and Lemieux x5. He is the 12th player to hit 90 assists in a season. He is the 10th player to hit 91 assists in a season.
I'm garbage with stats... Is this good?

He is on pace for 109 could be 112 if he did not miss 2 games he has 82 in last 53 games which is a 127 assist pace for 82 games Gretzky category

People can talk about increased scoring over the past 7 seasons all they like, but McDavid is still doing this in a league that is only on the level of one like 1995-1996 (though with less PP/PPO today).

For some perspective, Lemieux had 92 assists in 70 games that year. McDavid has 91 assists in 67 games this year.

Even to me, it remains mind-boggling that McDavid is doing anything in the realm of Lemieux, let alone Gretzky.

With 13 games remaining, here are some possible totals he might end up with.

A sudden decline to the APG he had in the first 16 games of this season still gets him to 100 on the nose.

His career average gets him to 104.

His average since unlocking a new level from the start of 2020-2021 (285 game sample size) to now gets him to 106.

His average over his past 53 games gets him to 111.

His average since the day after his 6 assist game gets him to 114 (past 20 games).

I’m interested to see what total is the one that secures his 6th Art Ross.

Racking up those secondary PP assists
Probably a joke post, but a lot of the "secondary assists" on PP for McDavid look like this:

There's nobody that can break down defences on the PP like McDavid does, the amount of space he generates for his teammates is insane. And even in plays that he doesn't get a point on it was usually his zone entry that lead to possession in the offensive zone.

There's a reason the Oilers top PP unit over the last 5 years has been like 25% more efficient at scoring than any other PP unit in the game and McDavid is an enormous part of that.

He hit 93 assists tonight.

This is the 21st most assists in a season. He is the 9th player to hit 93 assists.

Is McDavid passing more(maybe even passing some potential scoring chance) now that he has been on pace to get over 100 assists? Or are they just coming naturally?

Except winning.
Mario won 2 Sc's when the Pens were bosltered by a great many excellent players and then never really got clsoe after the 92 SC.

People make too big of a deal about a guy not having a SC in a 32 team salary cap league.

Either they are ignorant of the facts or should know better one would think.

He's also been passing more before 100 assists was ever really on the table. Not a shooter at all this season, which is strange when you put up 60+ the year before. Still not betting against an injury that has limited his shot.
Imagine being able to pivot from the best goalscoring season in 15 years to the best playmaking season in 35 years overnight because of an injury lol

Hopefully he goes on a heater and hits 115 assists.

Most assists in a season by someone not named Gretzky

the crazy thing is he would need 22 assists in the last 12 games to hit that

which is 1.83 assists per game which sounds like a lot and is

....but he has 50 assists in his last 27 games so he's actually had a higher pace than that the past third of a season now

I think in many cases it's option 3: they very much know and would never attack a player over it if he happened to play for their team. It's more trolling against a team they dislike (or their fanbase) than an actual argument.
