Is John Gibson the current Vezina favourite?

He seems to keep getting better. This year in 3 games he's led the Ducks (!) to 3 straight wins, giving up a total of 3 goals and .970 save %. He's never even been a Vezina finalist before but this could be the year. Lack of wins could potentially hurt him though.

After 3 games he is leading the race. The race is a marathon and not a sprint. Will he still hold the lead after 82 games? It is not impossible, but I would bet against him at this point.

Wayyyy too early. So I’ll be a Caps fan and predict Holtby has a career year as he’s playing for his next contract.

Hope he becomes a finalist. Ducks will likely make the playoffs if he keeps playing like this or close to it.

If Gibson is a favorite, it's not so much due to the 3 games he's played so far (which are incredible, yes), but more because of his consistently strong goaltending stats over the past 3+ seasons.

To this point he's been snubbed from Vezina votes (not saying he should have won, specifically), but many of the stats people out there know his numbers are Vezina worthy.

Yeah, for sure. Also Carolina is unstoppable and should just be awarded the cup now.

3 games folks. 3 games. Pump the brakes a bit.

Gibson has been one of the best, if not the best goalie in the league the past two seasons, so yes he is a Vezina favorite.

I never understand what people are wanting to achieve with these threads 3 games in. Like, you're not expecting an actual discussion here, are you?

I've always considered Gibson a goalie that would inevitably win a Vezina in his career. Could it be this year? Sure, why not. Especially if he can drag his team into the playoffs.

I think it's reasonable to say Gibson is Vezina-caliber. But, durability and team play albeit affect the results. It's like the MVP argument (if they didn't play for team X, how would team X fair) works against Goalies for whatever reason.

Is it too early for this thread? Yes.
He might have a chance this year.
