Is it time for the Oilers to use one of their best assets and make a trade to round out the team and address their weaknesses that have been a patchwork of unwanted NHL players for the 3rd and 4th line, along with a goalie and a defenseman.

Hiring a GM who is not an idiot when it comes to having cap space would be the course to go. Unfortunately between Chia and Holland the damage has already been done.

You don’t get full value for a player like that, especially in a cap league, so no. Everyone dreams of a Lindros-type deal in these scenarios but in reality it’d likely end up with pennies on the dollar

Seriously they are not the problem trade someone else or picks but they are the team. Having the two best players in league is not something you consider breaking up.

I'm not saying trade them either, but who else would they be able to trade? Their team is garbage, they aren't getting anything of value for any other player.

I don't know about garbage it's a slump but yes they need something to change. Not sure what they could do but between prospects, picks and younger roster player they have assets to make a deal.

It's an entertainment business and having both keeps the value of the team sky high and keeps ticket prices sky high, so no.

31/32 are losers at the end of the season, there is no way a trade for McDavid or Draisaitl will be allowed by the owner, period, end of.

Because of Gretzky gate too, something the city has never gotten over, they will never willingly trade players like this. They have a few years to build up better depth around them and either they do it or they don't, but there will be no trade.

Love how the no option is worded in such a biased fashion and still winning.
They have holes that need to be filled but you won’t solve it by trading one of the 2 best offensive players in the league.

Scout. Find good players that fall through the draft. Find UFA prospects that can turn into players. Have your pro scouting find undervalued UFAs and players on other teams primed for a break out.

Yeah it’s difficult, that’s why GMs make so much money. They have 2 of the best players in the world to build around. It’s a hell of a head start.

Drasaitl and mcdavid have fantastic caphits, drasaitl obv more so. They are not the problem. The problem is continued capspace mismanagement and poor trades. Trading for Keith without any retention is a big L. Ceci and Barrie doesn’t fix the defensive aspects on the backend. Not addressing the goaltending is a huge L. Kassian and foegele are being paid a combined 6 mil to be decent depth scoring, they have 6 goals between them in 27 gp and a combined -12. I know your not expecting much from those two, but eating up 6 mil on those 2 players only adds to the issues of the team, not helps. I haven’t even gotten to the nurse monstrosity caphit starting NEXT season….

No, both add value at their cap hits.

The only way they get traded is if they want out. Otherwise, it's smarter to chip away at the rest of the team and build around them. It can be done once they start acting smart with their remaining dollars.

All sounds great but the Oilers have been so incompetent at every level for so long that I wouldn't bet on any of that happening.

You don't trade them unless they are coming towards the end of their deal and you have a strong feeling they have one foot out the door looking at FA.

Nurse, Keith, RNH, Hyman, Koskinen, Barrie, Ceci are the problems here - Not Draisaitl and McDavid. Theese problems arent fixable though without selling the farm and adding pics.

No shot, you don't find game breaking talent like that everyday. They just need to find a way to ice a decent bottom six. They get absolutely nothing from them game in and game out.

Crosby and Malkin have won three Cups together.

Edmonton should try to do the same.

They cant with the shitty contracts they handed out to tweeners. They cant afford a MAF, Letang etc. Crosby also is atleast decent 200ft. McDavid doesnt really backcheck.

They would further reduce their chances of winning the Cup by trading away either of McDavid or Draisaitl. You will never receive equal value in return for players of this caliber.

I doubt any team would move Draisaitl with 3½ years of 8.5M cap hit. And McDavid would require such a huge return and would be such blow to fans that no way.. (would be like Gretzky pt 2, but even worse shock).
