The European nations have fielded the best possible teams.

The only absence that marked me was Hamara for Czechia

20 years ago the Czech Republic was triple world champion and Olympic champion.

71 Czechs were playing in NHL, 47 Swedes.

Czechia was clearly stronger than Sweden in 2001.
Yes Czech was stronger like 1998-2001, but Sweden was strongest nation after Canada for like 2003-2008 timeline with Forsberg Näslund Alfredson Lidström Sundin etc

yes czech was stronger than sweden during that time, but not in early 90s

sweden won silver in 1990, 1993, 1994, 1995, gold in 1991, 1992, 1994 (og).

sweden was very strong 1990-1995

I do not disagree. There was also a period (1965 to 1985) when Czechoslovakia was better.

But during the Hasek / Jagr generation, Czechia was monstrous. If the IIHF ranking had existed, Czechia would have been world number 1 between 1998 and 2002. I was careful in saying top 4 alongside the Americans and the Russians.

Went from 1996 to 2006 and conventiently missed our best on best golds in 1998 and 2005 (boycotted NHL season World Championships). It bears repeating... Canadian fans constantly bring up that 2005 world junior team while never acknowledging that that world championship was also boycotted and was a best on best. You'd think they only held a junior tourney during that NHL lockout.lol

I'd like to add back to back World Junior Champs to your list as well! 2000 and 2001.

by 2006, Swedes were flying away from Czechs at jetspeed! We peaked in 2005. And I don't think Sweden has ever had a 15 year decline like we are in. Our best days are better. However, our worst days are much much much worse.lol

There may have been a few things going on in Czechoslovakia at the time ... your point stands but let's not pretend Swedes and Czechs had similar lives in the early 90s. We weren't even the Czechs till 1993 so I'd eliminate those golds and silvers becasue Czechs weren't even a team. When we did become the Czechs... we lost a LOT of good players to Slovakia. FTR.. love the split and am not complaining but early 90's is an insane time to be a Czech person.

For a very small time.. we were outstanding! I'd say best in world...

Best on best Gold
3 World Championships
2 World Junior Championships
Multiple Art Ross, Harts and Vezinas

in a span of 4 years

Those are Canadian accolades.

FTR.. I have a big pet peeve when TSN calls is the Hasek years.. he only played on one of those 7 teams above.. the other Golds did not have a Hasek or a Jagr.
