Ekblad is good but the most impressive aspect is that he's so young.

If he was 24 with the same skill he'd just be good. No one would be saying "most talented defense". How long can he keep the learning curve up is the question.

Not even remotely close. Karlsson, Doughty, Subban, Hedman, OEL and a host of others. If we're talking pure talent, Ekblad doesn't stack up with the elite. Ekblad's skill is that he's extremely efficient and has a great feel for the game. He isn't an overly dynamic talent, just really really good at playing his position.

There is couple of more talented D-men in league who hasn't been mentioned, but they are already way past their prime eg. Pronger so propably nobody remembers how talented hockey players they are.

Obviously I am excluding players like Pronger... He will never be good as him anyway.

Seems like he's more of a game manager with great reach and some goal scoring ability.

Letang and karlsson have more freak athletic ability, IMO.

Josi is one of the best skaters, has incredible hands and a very good shot.

Say what you want about his corsi, but Josi is in fact, one of the leagues most talented defensemen.

At the level of concept, I get what you're asking but 'talent' is very hard to quantify and compare. Moreover, I think talent is often thought of as great athletic ability, great puck skills or something of that nature, but having great will and drive is a talent in itself in my opinion. And it's probably the most important talent a hockey can have.

As for the all-around qualities you want from a #1 defense he may be there one day but not today.

I think Barkov is the better player and will be.

I think I'd rather have Ekblad on my team because I think defensemen are harder to come by.
