Is Brian Gionta destined to return?

First of all that's not what I said. I said that I understand why Lou would do that, bridging the gap until the young forwards are ready. I find it hilarious that you could take that away from what was written.

And I would RATHER build a team on the fly while remaining competitive unlike the dregs of the league where losing has permeated into the philosophies of the entire organization. Thank God Lou still runs this team. The Islanders have been rebuilding for 21 years - that's what happens when your prized 1st round picks don't work out.

Then Lou should go after Stastny big time and make a trade. Signing retreads doesn't take any imagination. If that's all Lou has, anyone of us can be GM for this team at a reduced cost to the organization. I read that the worse thing in the NHL, is to be mediocre. You may be on the playoff bubble most of the time and you will constantly be drafting middle of the pack. People love to bring up the Oilers and Islanders, what about the Kings and Avs. They went through their rough period but our back as champs and a serious contender that are fun to watch.

Will be interesting to see if he does come back. If you believe the rumors out of Montreal, Lou wanted him back.

Didn't you state that you would go back to being an Isles fan if they got exciting again once they move to Brooklyn?

You overstate the job and obviously have hindsight on your site. Kings(I get) and Avs? Stop it already, what have the Avs done since the last cup they won? didn't they get jettisoned in the 1st. round:shakehead. Will be interesting to see what they can piece together.

Kings were awful for their first 25 years and than ok for the Gretzky era and relevant for the last few seasons. Chicago was bad for like 40 years and now have this powerhouse status. It happens in sports, don't get me wrong I would prefer certain players here with hindsight. If the Devils have an internal canidate that is good for 15-25 goals like Gionta brings, there is no need for him. You think Boucher and Matteau can bring it?

As far as age goes, who really cares Jagr, Zids and Elias can still produce does it mean youth should be served? Who in the youth movement will score 48 points from the backline?

People cite those teams because they are attempting to go with that pesky youth movement and draft stellar picks. A team is more than just sexy names like Tavares, Hall you also need a culture. Believe it or not, the GM you like to bash/cite is seen as a template for GM's like Lombardi and others building winning cultures.

You have no concept of what's going on with the Devils if you believe it benefits the team by bringing old players on their last leg. And sure, I'll root for a struggling team that's young and fast over a old, slow and boring team. Only one team each year wins the cup, however, I would like to believe my team has a chance to go deep and find them entertaining, but that's me.

Really one team wins the cup? Interesting.....Actually you have no concept, there needs to be a balance of sorts. I think the Devils are starting to address it in light of losing (which is something you forget to factor) the loss of Kovalchuk, Parise and Clarkson and their goals.

So why aren't you rooting for the Islanders, they are young and fast and struggling and the Devils are all old and boring.

What do you call Lou getting Schneider? Is he young enough for you?

Who are these said players on their last leg? Who are these guys ready for the glue factory? Some people just like gripe. All I said was a UFA who can score and is a veteran is better than a question mark prospect. Hate the pencil in game in Hockey and Baseballs fans do it all the time.

Jagr? Zidlicky? Elias? Sound logic on your part there. What youngsters should the Devils bring in? I'm all for a Stastny, but cue the LOU OVERPAYS for UFAs drivel if Stasny doesn't perform to his 7 million a year price tag.

I'm all for youngens who can perform and all, but who cares how old Jagr is? Do you really think he's almost done. I prefer players who can contribute regardless of age.

There is going to be a period of reckoning and this current CBA is starting to affect teams that have talent as well. It's frustrating to what it seems to be the Devils suffering from it. But this is what the owners wanted.

is jagr done? last season no…..but he is not the future and cant last forever. (although a freak of nature)... only playing the games will prove what he has to contribute.

I guess you're a status quo drink the koolaid type of guy. And I'm a Devil fan, but don't be surprised if the Islanders are better than the Devils this season and the future. They shored up their goaltending and their best player, who is also a top ten player will be back after missing half a season.

I'm sorry, but when someone throws out names to me like Jagr, Elias and Zid, I'm not impressed, I'm angry. They should be complementary players for us at this point in their careers. Jagr 43, Elias and Zid 38/39?

I believe if the culture doesn't change in this organization, I see a bleak future. While others believe the team is just hucky dory. Maybe they aren't true Devil fans.

Lolz at your Islander comment.

Does it make you angry, that Elias is a part of the winning culture, Jagr one of the greatest ever and Zidlickly put up 48 points, wow they are older....oooh..get angry they still contribute.

I am also not a Devils fan who says silly stuff like you do with that Islanders nugget and has also stated would go back to being a Islanders fan.

Kool Aid Drinker is better than being a Surrender Monkey or Franchise jumper like you have admitted.

Basically you gave up on them when the dynasty ended and have stated you would switch back.

More silliness on your part.

You state how OLd the team is, I state those players still contribute. The core of the team is Henrique, Zajac and work up front. Also, the Defense core is all under 31 and under (Greene, Fayne, LArrson, Merrill, Gelinas).

But again the fan that questions other fandom has admitted to souring on teams past, again don't hurt yourself jumping off the bandwagon to the Isles of the Future!!!!

It wouldn't surprise me at all. We only finished 9 points ahead of the islanders last year and they were ravaged with injuries (Viz, Tavares, Okposo, Nabakov). One organization is headed up (even being at the cap floor) and the other down. It's two ships passing in the night. And quite honestly I really don't have problem with it, on the account that this phenomenon is cyclical in professional sports. Eventually, winning franchises hit ruts. You can't escape from it. I'm not going to like the devils any less but conversely, you just pray that they learn from their past mistakes, since the status quo environment doesn't pride itself on adaptation.

Oh yeah, this is the Gionta thread. Somebody needs to make a "He's coming" gif for Gionta, like the one the Leafs made for Clarkson last year.

If they shipped out Ryder for a 3rd round pick and signed Gionta for 2 years 7 million I would be happy with that. Very much so.

We shouldn't want a Gionta reunion anymore than the Habs shouldn't want a reunion with Ryder. Neither make this team better than the utter mediocrity it was, and the whole point of acquisitions should be to get better, not stay the same with a more tolerable last name on a jersey.

This team needs to be tougher and stronger, because faster just isn't a collective option for various reasons.
